| Waiting to potty...and litter/pad confustion! Mr Belvedere will be 12 weeks on Saturday. He's doing very well with his training considering my boyfriend and I work long hours. We're trying to litter train him and he seems to be getting it...kinda. He poops in the litter but he still pees all over the floor. But when it come to puppy pads (which he was using at the breeders) he pees on the pad but poops on the floor. It's a no-win situation. Ideally I'd like to stick to litter, since I heard it's cheaper. Also he's been burying his waste in the litter so it doesn't stink, another plus! I've been using his litter to soak up his pee when I can and put it back in his litter box, but it's a slow process. He's actually taken to peeing on the bathroom floor so much that the wood paneling is coming off of the cabinet. We've purchased a Pet Gear Home 'N Go Pet Pen to keep him in there during the day because of the paneling, we rent and we don't want it to get worse. We're going to try using the pet pen during the day instead of the bathroom and lining the litter box with pee pads and litter and put a pee pad under the litter box. Any thoughts or suggestions? The other thing I have a question about is, it seems my yorkie prefers to pee on the carpet or on our beds. It seems like we leave him with his litter box/pee pad and he intentionally holds it until he's out playing with us, then he'll pee all over the place. We've been diligent with spraying Nature's Miracle where he goes so he doesn't go in he same spot twice, but I just get this feeling, like he's waiting for us to take him out. He generally doesn't roam free unless someone is actively playing with him, otherwise he has an exercise pen, separate from the pet pen I mentioned above. Any thoughts? |

Yorkie Yakker | Hello, I have a 9 1/2 month old boy. I trained him from the beginning to a litter pan, but with just a wee wee pad inside, no litter (cause I tried the litter and he wanted to eat it and play with it). It worked great, there is a spray called Housebreaking Aid that I sprayed on the pad for awhile until he really got the hang of it. I don't need to use it anymore. I use a medium sized litter pan and I am able to cut the 23" by 24" wee wee pad in half, so I get two from one. That way they last twice as long. Also, I order them online from a WONDERFUL site called PetEdge.com. I get the 100 pack of Wee Wee Pads for $26.99!!!!! That is about what I would pay for a 30 pack at the pet store. They do charge shipping but I just order 2 at a time and they sell ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING else also. Their prices on toys, brushes everything is so cheap. It is the same stuff as the pet store just about over half the price. I would try that. It has worked really well for us. Let me know how it goes. |

| Thanks so much! I'm going to talk to my boyfriend tonight to see what we're going to do. We thought litter would be cheaper, but with that price, they're about the same. Question, what size litter pan are you using? Mine seemed big when I got my puppy but now I think it may be too small. The one I got is 14.5"L X 22"W X 5"H Thanks! Victoria Quote:

| The puppy is like having a human baby without a diaper on. You don't want it in any of the humans beds or on the rug or carpet. Not to run loose at all till he's completely house trained, then always keep a close eye on him. When he's older he may even start "marking" all the furniture. It's called staking his claim. Get some belly bands and keep on hand. Keep him in the expen with a wee-wee pad on one end, the wire crate at the other end with the fence attached only to each side of the door. Keep the door open all the time. You can put a blanket over the crate to make it like a little den that they feel safe in, and drafts out. Attach a water bottle to the pen. This way he can't turn over any water dish or play in it. Put a safe toy or chewy in with him. Take him out only to take him outside to potty and play, or to let him join you on the sofa to watch TV. No playing on the sofa. He needs to learn that it will be quiet time there. Give him a chew toy. Keep an eye on him that he doesn't get up, walk around and sniff. A good sign he needs to potty. Just say, "potty"? Then take him either outside or to the potty pad. Good luck with your baby.
