The puppy is like having a human baby without a diaper on. You don't want it in any of the humans beds or on the rug or carpet. Not to run loose at all till he's completely house trained, then always keep a close eye on him. When he's older he may even start "marking" all the furniture. It's called staking his claim. Get some belly bands and keep on hand. Keep him in the expen with a wee-wee pad on one end, the wire crate at the other end with the fence attached only to each side of the door. Keep the door open all the time. You can put a blanket over the crate to make it like a little den that they feel safe in, and drafts out. Attach a water bottle to the pen. This way he can't turn over any water dish or play in it. Put a safe toy or chewy in with him. Take him out only to take him outside to potty and play, or to let him join you on the sofa to watch TV. No playing on the sofa. He needs to learn that it will be quiet time there. Give him a chew toy. Keep an eye on him that he doesn't get up, walk around and sniff. A good sign he needs to potty. Just say, "potty"? Then take him either outside or to the potty pad. Good luck with your baby.
