| Differences in AKC & ACA (Facts only, please) I have one AKC female and one ACA female. It seems that most people prefer AKC over ACA. Please enlighten me on the FACTS of each and why they are different. No opinions, please. Everyone is definitely entitled to their own opinion, but I really just want to know WHY AKC is the more common and more "preferred". Thank you for taking the time to answer. Brenda |

| Bump. Is this a "touchy" subject?? I wouldn't think so, if all that is posted is facts. If nothing is posted in reply, then I guess it's safe to assume that the only differences are merely people's opinions. . . . ? Hmmm. Interesting. |

My furkids Donating Member | All I can tell you is this...when I asked my breeder what the difference was she told me that to register ACA is cheaper than to register AKC.. I do not know if this is true ( OOPS! I guess this was an opinion.,..sorry) Have you checked the internet? Maybe ask AKC directly..I'm sure they could give you some info...I really don't know. Have you tried going onto the breeders site here on YT? I'm sure they could give you some info.

| I don't know what the difference is all I am going to say is that AKC is as bad as those registries that some repel because they all regestering with providing pictures. I read a couple of days of that now AKC has partnered with PETLAND to allow registration of there dogs online when people purchase them at these stores. Talk about unethical. |

| If you have a dog registered with AKC and the breeder gives you only limited registration (unable to breed and register pups with AKC) then ACA will register the pups for you. The question is - why did the breeder not want the AKC dog to breed or stud - was it because they saw genetic defaults or health related reasons or the dog was not within standards? If I had my choice to register either AKC or ACA I would either dual register or go with AKC because information on the past generations is much more complete and goes further back (just because AKC has been around so long). |

| I agree with the previous post. I had a Yorkie once that was ACA and it was definately a product of two dogs that should not have been breed. (She only got half of her perminant teeth) Now I'm not saying that all ACA dogs are bad dogs and shouldn't be breed or that all AKC dogs are wonderful dogs, but it seems in alot of cases, someone may purchase an AKC dog with a limited registration and then registar it with a different registary so that they can sell the pups as registarred. We are expecting a litter a APR puppies. Our male is AKC and our female is APR (but she was so beautiful and perfect we had to have her) so the pups have to be registared APR. However, I do show my dogs and know that they are very close to standard and are very healthy. As for people saying that it is cheaper to registar with ACA or any other registary. I think that they are trying to cover something (sorry opinion), but if there is a difference it is not that much. I've had dogs that are AKC, APR, and ACA and I don't remember the exact amounts I paid to have the dogs registarred, but it wasn't a considerable difference. My biggest complaint about the ACA is that the couple of times I e-mailed them they never replied, and when I called them they never had any answers. This is also my complaint about other registaries like the ASCA (austrailan shepard club of America)(yeah i know this is Yorkie talk but I would like an austrailan shepard for agility and obedence). The AKC and APR have always been quick to answer my questions and e-mails. The AKC actually has an e-mail sent to you immediately that says they will be getting back to you. Okay I'm rambling, sorry. The bottom line is. Get your dog from someone you trust. and make sure you get to see the parents, and make sure it is healthy. And get one that fits your needs.

Not against registering online with any registry (no different than by mail in my opinion, the requirements are still going to be the same) - everything is going to a paperless trail - better for the environment.

| I'm sort of scared to jump in here because I don't really know anything. I have been told that breeders sometimes use registries other than AKC because the others don't check up on them. I would definitely like to know what happened in Little Bit's case. The breeder told me that both of the parents were AKC but she gave me APRI registry for Little Bit. I have checked the AKC list of suspensions and she is not on there so I really don't know. I also thought I had heard that AKC charged the breeders more to register a litter than the others. I hope that you are able to get the answers you are looking for. Good luck |

I think all registries have their pluses and their faults. I don't have a problem with other registries. I don't base it on what registry the dog is registered with. Instead, I think what someone needs to go by is not the registry itself but rather by the breeder and the dogs. I know some great breeders that use different registries and their dogs are excellent quality. Any registry can have bad breeders and bad dogs, it is knowing the breeder and their dogs that is most important. JMO

That was my conclusion, after reading past threads with so many opinions, and after looking at both websites. Since there weren't any definitive differences given here, I will conclude, until otherwise educated differently, that both registeries are reputable and for all intents and purposes, the same (other than the fact that AKC + only AKC = AKC). Thanks for the input, everyone.

| Sorry that you had to get mostly opinions. But I know I have dealt with both registries and ACA has never responded to my e-mails and had very few answers when i called. Where as AKC has alway responded, very promptly, to any questions I had. Also AKC does up date their site often and tries to keep it up to date. I haven't been on the ACA site for over a year, but last time I was there (and every time I was ever there) and I'm just guessing that it hasn't change, it had George Bush on the main page saying something about search and rescue dogs. Best of luck to you
