breeding female information Hi I'm interested in getting a female puppy that would be suitable for breeding. I wonder if breeder (I need your opinion) would consider a deposit for the puppy, and then a payment plan...with no full registration papers given until after the puppy is paid for (4 months of payments). OR if anyone would consider a deposit, have the female brought back to them for first mating, and be able to pick 2 pups from the 1st litter as payment? I have a friend who breeds cats, and this is they way she does it. Does anyone have an opinion to offer on this matter. Thanks in advance!!

breeding You are not going to like what I say...breeding is very expensive. If you do not have enough money to pay for a pup outright..and a good one will run $1500 and up, then breeding is not something you should do IMO.. Anyone who breeds a litter needs $1000 put away for the vet in case of problems...simple vet fees consisting of tail/declaw, shots, worm checks, health checks on pups is very costly...heaven fobid your bitch needs a section. It wasn't long ago I read a post on another forum where the breeder had no money to take her bitch for a shot of oxyie to get out the last pup..bitch labored for hours and finally passed a dead pup...no excuse for that one.

thanks Hi Yorkierose I apreciate your opinion. I wonder, because this is how my friend says many operate in the "cat world" It's not that I don't have the money, I just wonder if breeders of dogs (yorkies) sometimes do this. I realize, although only from reading and not from "practical experience" that one must have money put away for whelping, because many things can happen both to the mum and to the pups.. wouldn't want to take any unnecessary risks on either...both are precious. Also, if you were to purchase a breeding female, as a pup, wouldn't you then have to wait about 2 years before you breed her for the first time? That said, would that not give a person ample time to build up a "whelping fund" ?? thanks again though, I really do appreciate your time and thoughts.

thanks Gloriajean I appreciate your opinion. I wonder how one would approach asking that? Any thoughts? I mean, obviously, a breeder will have put time and energy, love and money into her "bitch" and the whelping, and the pups...sometimes up to 4 months with the pups.. Obviously they would appreciate recupping some (and I know not nearly all) of the money they've put into the litter and it's mum.. I wonder how you would aproach one to suggest that they get it in 4 monthly payments instead of one lump sum?

I am sorry to tell you this but... first of all, no one that doesn't know you very very well is going to let you leave with one of their pups with only putting down a deposit. It just is not very wise. One will let you pay a little at a time, but pup doesn't leave the breeder till paid in full. Second, YorkieRose is right ~ whelping is very expensive and you must have the money saved for emergencies. Therefor you should have already paid for the female in full to start saving to breed her. Third, any reputable and experienced knowledgable breeder is not going to sell you a breeder as a young pup. I do not know if one of my pups has any good qualities that I want passed on till she is at least 6 months old, better at one year. So no full registration till then. I have to be responsible for the future pups my pups may have. Nothing against you - it is just how things are done. Sorry ~ yorkies are not like cats. Even in the cat world - what you are talking about only happens with close friends and with contracts. T.

My suggrestion would be to put a deposit on a newborn, and then save some money each month untill the puppy is old enough to take home at 3 months old. Also Cats tend to have 4 to 6 kittens. Yorkies only 2 to 4 puppies. Some have more, but that is not the usual. BTW Welcome to YT. | |

As far as paying for the pup in 4 payments and paid in full before you take her home - is okay with most breeders. You just need to ask. You can sometimes negotiate the price with some breeders if times are slow and they know you would make a good home for the pup. Best of luck!

thanks topknot thank you for your opinion... As I stated before, this is a very appreciated thing!! Breeder(s) opinions are very informative. I do understand what you are saying, and thanks for that. I wouldn't be dealing with a breeder that I didn't have a history with or that I didn't know. I just heard this, and thought it was worth "investigating". Thanks again, so very much!!
