| ![]() I hope all your puppies survived the night. I wouldn't leave mom unsupervised with her pups ever until she starts acting normal. It is possible that the tiny one expired and that's why she ate it or that there was something wrong with it. I know it's gross but I've seen it happen. I'm sorry I don't know for sure about her strange behavior, I can only hypothesize that that last big puppy's birth hurt her terribly but more likely, the visit to the vet stressed her out. That she is a first time mom makes it more likely that she would be freaked out. What was her temperament like before breeding? I know I would not leave those pups alone with her for a second. If I had no better advice, I would hold her and allow the pups to nurse and hopefully her maternal instincts will kick in with the nursing. Also, of course, the pups are getting the colostrum from the mom by the initial feedings. I would put the pups in an incubator, separated from the mom after she nursed them and pottied them. I would not let her excessively potty them. That would scare me because I've heard of a bitch doing damage to a pup's anus. She might act crazy when you take them away but I wouldn't let her obsessively potty the pups. Return them to nurse and potty and remove them again. There might be much better advice from someone who has actually had a bitch act like this but this is what I can think of unless someone gave me some better advice. I hope she settles in because otherwise you are in for a very long sleepless haul and you have a 3 month old baby so if you really might need some outside help. You mentioned the stud dog owner might be able to foster the pups so that's another option in the wings. Please update! |

| ![]() Most likely the momma did not intentionally hurt the puppy. New mommas need to be confined to a small private area away from other dogs. They have to feel secure. I always have my new mommas in an exercise pen with sheets hung on the sides for more privacy. Often a new momma, if not confined, will try to pick up the pups and move them. This could be what your momma was doing and she could have accidentally bit down to hard on the pup. It is normal for the momma to lick the pups a lot. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. |

| ![]() Hi guys puppy update we are now doing good!!!! Mommy instincts are starting to kick in!!! It's a miracle I think she was just confused and had been through a lot the vet had them separated too which likely didn't help her bond.I got up two times in the night to have her nurse the pups and again this morning and afternoon by this evening she is starting to lay down to nurse them. I took her into the groomers and had her belly shaved again and nails cut and she was in protect mode growling and saying back off from my babies. I do not allow anyone to touch them either. Keeping the kiddies far away!So her instincts are kicking in she just needed someone to show her what to do. I am so excited the smaller little boy who was born at 5.2 oz is now up to 6 oz I named him Mason after my baby boy and the bigger one who weighed 5.9 oz is now 6.4 oz and I named him Riley after my other son my husband joked and said so Emily died boo hoo which is my daughter's name bad joke! ![]() here is the link for the first album I couldn't find my awesome 10.2 mp camera so I had to use my husbands but they are graphic no doubt and very detailed birth photos. I don't have any of the third birth sine the vet helped with that one and wouldn't allow me to be there.Day two photos: Share this album with anyone by sending them this public link:Bittsy's Puppies Day 2 | Facebook Day one: Bitty's Puppies | Facebook |

| ![]() I am giving her vitamins should I be giving her something more? she now only leaved them to go potty or when I make her go potty and she won't eat or drink so I give her soft food which she will eat 3x a day and put a bowl of water up to her every so often to make her drink so she's getting more protective and her mommy instincts are kicking in. Thank you everyone for your warm wishes and prayers. I thank you all!!! |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() You can use a warm washcloth to wash her or babywipes. I wouldn't really put her in a bath tub for a couple of weeks yet. |
