| A button hole for the harness would probably be a little safer...

| Ditto, but more because Abby is so close to the ground her little belly would be snow covered if it's more than a couple inches of snow. But I always love shirts and jackets with sleeves.

| These have about 3" of industrial strength velcro around the stomach and neck, so they've held strong on even my lhasa who is 17 lbs , but of course for anyone w/concern on their dogs pulling or strength/size, a buttonhole is always a safe way to go |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I love it. The problem with lots of winter gear is it takes a while to get on. When I'm in a hurry, I'm less likely to put their coats on if I know I've gotta stuff their legs in leg holes and button or zip them up. They don't particularly like me fussing with them that long either. A friend made me a similar design to yours, and I love it. Wish mine had fleece, though, and maybe a more water/wind resistant material on the outside.

| I'm sure it's got the strongest velcro ever... I'm just paranoid with Smokey because if and when he does get loose... he runs and runs and runs and no one can keep up with him. I'm not concerned with Chip cause he stays next to mommy :-)

| that is cute but it looks more like a fall jacket like someone else said. im looking for a winter coat with some sleeves and legs possibly and with a hood.. like a snow suit i also like those puffer parka jackets.. with the sleeves and hood with faux fur trim.. i think those are much warmer.. i live in fl but it can get to below freezing where i live in the winter and because my babies arent used to it being cold at all they have like zero tolerance and just start shaking.. im looking for the warmest coat i can find |

I really appreciate all the opinions here! It's interesting to see what others see as winter coats . I have had 4 legged joggers and heavier parkas that seemed to irritate my babies to the point where they wouldn't walk in them, so I guess this was out of necessity for my "kids" Some of them are picky clothing wearers! I do personally find them to be warm enough for us and Winters up here in NY because the flap on the tummy is very wide so it covers nearly all of the belly and the fleece really holds in the warmth from their little bodies -- but I am going to look into making a few with sleeves for those who prefer some additional coverage Would those of you that prefer sleeves and more coverage like to see velcro or snaps -- closure on the top or the bottom? I know with my wiggly guys getting a jacket velcrod underneath is just not happening, LOL! Is the preferred fabric the parka material, or more of a thick fleece? I've had so much fun with making these coats - I love how snuggly it feels to start preparing for the colder months! to everyone!! | |
