Sorry Buddy, I have a problem with your box

Thanks Linda. I think I'm actually running into a surcharge problem because my box IS light and large. In other words, for as big a box as it is, it is unusually light, so they add a surcharge to make up for the difference. That was my problem with UPS, I didn't see that FedEx or USPS was doing that and their rates were comparable. I could actually go and get a different box, because I'm right at that size where slightly smaller is about 10.00 cheaper, but I'd have to make the trip and purchase it, so it doesn't really make sense to do that at this point. I was just shocked at how much rates have gone up. It doesn't help either, that I am shipping clear across the US. If I keep doing these GE's I'm just going to have to downsize. LOL

I always use US Post Office and I save money by shipping from home. The mail man picks it up right from my home. I print my label right from my home printer. You need the weight or just estimate it. The most I've ever paid for an GE saw 26 and some change. It helps to keep your box under 12 x12 x 12. IF not you can always mail 2 small boxes.

Plus you get $50 free insurance.

That's my problem, my item requires a large box so I can't do the two smaller ones, but you're right, about every 6" in length the rate goes up by about 10.00. My box is 24"

I sell filters for a living and they are light compared to their size so when shipping they become a bulk density type of item. Shipping used to be determined more by weight but now size comes into play in a big way because the size of the box is what determines how many boxes can fit in a UPS Truck or a shipping van. When shipping via UPS my customers are constantly complaining about the cost because it really has gone way up in the last few years.

Sometime we forget to consider the shipping cost when shopping and crafting for our buddy's. I learned that the hard way. So I really hope that your buddy appreciates it . . a Lot . . A LoT ! !

Clear across the US leaves us out I think. Lol. Glad you got it figured out I agree on the shipping cost I never think about till I go to ship it. And the rates have gone up.

My box was sent usps ground (regular post) and it was fifty dollars to ship. It was one inch outside of regular dimensions but the surcharge for that was one dollar and change so that really isn't what affected it. The insurance cost was five dollars and change. I kinda knew it was going to be an ouch to ship, I almost couldn't shut the box so I had to lay one of the presents on top wrapped in tissue paper instead of a box, shove it shut (hopefully the bubble wrap atop protects things) and tape it like I was mummy wrapping, lol. It looks tacky, downright, but I am hoping my buddy will like it

Indeed! It has nRrowed down substantially as of this morning my buddy should be receiving their box early next week as well and we have a couple of ladies who have received but not yet revealed... I think we will find out soon!

I ran into this recently when I sent a package to Lisa. The lady at the post office helped me. I had to send two packages but it worked out to be better. Everything except the large item was sent in a box. The large item she "rigged" up a packaging for me. I would ask my post office.
