| Help I'm stumped with this onesie Hi Everyone: I am working on a onesie for a friend with a Brussles Griffon who is a special needs dog. She is very tiny and has to wear clothing all the time. She requested me to make her a onesie with the belly a little shorter than the back and to narrow the back as she is very skinny there. She does, however have an 11" chest, and only a 4 inch neck. As you can see from the pics, I have cut a circle from the belly and cut it down the center to take it in...My problem is...how do I take this thing in so that I can get it to fit her neck, chest and then make the back a little smaller? I was thinking perhaps take the neck in and taper towards the bottom of the belly line, then try to take in the side seams for the back? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

| Is the onesie cut to the measurements you need, with a little wiggle room? If so, I would serge the side seams to the point where they can be closed, being sure to taper as needed then I would serge the remaining seams individually or add your skirt if you are making one of those. Just my thoughts. Good luck and I'd love to see how you decide to finish it off. I hope this makes sense.

| Thanks for the tip. I think I am over thinking it. Whaaa. I destroyed 3 today and gave up for the day. She only wants lace seen to the bottom of the back. I am not going to bother trying to make the belly shorter as it is a hemming nightmare. The other tough part is trying to take the neck in a little and not so much in the middle and then more at the bottom. Hopefully someone out there can give me a few more tips. Oh and btw I don't have a surger. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I think the easiest thing to do would be to make darts at the neck and belly.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Cindy you could try cutting a triangle piece from each side starting at the neck taking a wider section from the neck and than taper down to the belly opening. That would make the neck opening smaller but keep the belly the same size. Example below . .

| Wow!!! This way worked perfectly...I started the dart one inch wide at the neck and tapered down to the chest. I then started the second dart 2 inches wide at the bottom and tapered it right up to the first dart. I have only stitched it by hand so far and am going to try to overcast the stitching line and cut away the excess fabric but so far, it looks exactly as it should. It is a little smaller in the neck and much smaller at the bottom end...Thank you thank you thank you! |

| pics of finished onesies Hi everyone With all the great advice I got from here, I managed to get these things the way I wanted. I did a one inch dart from the neck to 3 " down. Then I started a 2 inch dart and had it meet the dart from the top. Below are the pics of the finished work. The chest is a little larger and of course the bottom goes in as this little doggie is quite skinny in the rear end. Now just to get her over here to try them on and make sure they fit perfectly. Here's hoping. Dang...posted one wrong pic..ignore the one with the tu tu..tried to delete it when I realized and couldn't get it to delete. Last edited by Wallee; 08-06-2013 at 08:13 AM. |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | They turned out great! You'll have to take pix during the fitting so we can see the cutie in her adorable custom clothes.
