Is the onesie cut to the measurements you need, with a little wiggle room? If so, I would serge the side seams to the point where they can be closed, being sure to taper as needed then I would serge the remaining seams individually or add your skirt if you are making one of those. Just my thoughts. Good luck and I'd love to see how you decide to finish it off. I hope this makes sense.
