| How To Make Jammies Out of Onesies (long tee) How about it? Finally a step by step How To! This method works great for those of us who don't know how to use, or don't own, a sewing machine. It's a little tedious, but the results are always fabulous! It helps if you already have a favorite tee for your pup. Step 1 Gather your materials. Which means, buy onesies! Other than onesies, you'll need, your favorite tee for your pup, scissors, a ruler, a pen or marker (non bleeding preferable), needle and thread in a coordinating color. The size onesie will depend on the fit you want to have. I like form fitting tees, and jammies to show off Kaji's muscles. We use either premie onesies if we can find them, or we settle for newborn sizes. For reference, Kaji weighs approximately 7 lbs. He is 12.5 inches from base of neck to base of tail. Neck size 7.75 inches. Chest 12.25 inches. For this step by step, I am using newborn sized onesies. Step 2 Laying the onesie out flat with the image on top, you are looking at what will be the back of your pups new jammies. IMG_0430.JPG Compare it to your pup's favorite tee. IMG_0431.JPG Usually, for long tee onesie jammies, all you have to do is cut right above where the snaps go. Using a ruler, mark with a dotted line where you'll be making your cut. IMG_0433.JPG Following the line, cut the snaps off and bottom legs off and you'll have something that looks like this. IMG_0434.JPG If this length is close to what you'd like, and you have a girl dog, CONGRATULATIONS! You're almost done. (Boy dog owners, continue to step 3) Roll up, or fold up the hem, and sew. If you have no practice sewing, here's a good video that can show you how. (please forgive the narrator's monotone voice. I choose this video because it offers more than one way to sew a hemline.)

| Step 3 For boys, or girls if you like the curved hemline on the underside of the shirt, this is how I've done it. Using my favorite tee as a guide, I placed it on top of the onesie, as if the onesie is wearing the tee. IMG_0431.JPG -----> IMG_0435.JPG (I also flipped the tee and onesie so the graffic [back part] is facing down) Please make sure the back of the tee and the back of the onesie match up. You don't want to make mistake and cut the back short instead of the front. (tummy area) Using the ruler, mark the curve anywhere from half and inch, to and inch and a half away from the tee. IMG_0436.JPG The farther away you mark, the longer the shirt will end up being on the inside. (tummy area) You can make as few or as many marks as you want to guide your cut. IMG_0438.JPG These further cuts will make the back of the tee shorter as well. On the bright side, it is less likely that your pup will pee on the tee. For the back side of the jammies, you can either use your ruler to make a straight even cut, or a curved cut. For the curve, use your pup's tee to help you. (if it also has a curved back). Use it as a guide before you make any cuts, similar to how we did the tummy area.

| Forgot to add more pictures for step 3 I begin the cut by just cutting through both layers of the onesie (front and back). It's a very small cut. IMG_0441.JPG From there I grab just the tummy area, and cut along my dots to make the curve. IMG_0442.JPG IMG_0443.JPG Once that is done, I cut the back part too. I decided to make a straight cut for the back. (more like a short tee) IMG_0444.JPG

| Step 4 Now that the cutting is done. Roll or fold the hem and sew. If you have a sewing machine, this will be very easy. If you don't, and this is your first time sewing, see the youtube video above for a reference. For the shirt pictured, I decided to leave the design and buttons on the front to show off Kaji's blond, manly chest hair. IMG_0445.JPGKaji wearing Shirt.jpg For Long Sleeves Step 5 If the onesie has long sleeves, cut the sleeves a little longer than your desired length, fold, and sew.

| Sure! I can teach to crochet too! I taught an adult crochet class when I was 11. Technically, I was subbing for my mom.

I need to try the curved tummy, and curved back tee. That sounds complicated! I did make a onesie with legs into a jammy with legs for Kaji. That one was harder!

| Thanks. This is great as I have been wanting to try this. I just bought some onesies on eBay in different sizes to practice. Your instructions are very clear. And, by the way, I like the part about Kaji's manly chest hairs.

| This is pretty much how I make Mina's nighties, except I put knit trim on the bottom instead of heming. I also use these as tshirts to go under some of her jumpers. One of my favorite outfits for her is a NB size Carters sundress that I altered and put a tshirt made from a onesie under it. |
