| I don't mean to be mean or anything, but it usually isn't a good idea to give someone a living thing as a gift. It may not be what your friend wants, may not have the look, personality, age, etc. and your friend will then be stuck with that dog instead of what she wanted for many years or the dog will be rehomed if she doesn't like it. Once you find a puppy in your price range you should definately let your friend have the final say before you purchase it. Good luck! Desiree |

| Welcome to YT!~ I agree with the post above about getting someone a living creature as a gift. Perhaps you can design/make a pretty voucher for her (kinda like those Valentine's Day coupon books) saying that you'll contirbute up to $900 to the cost of her Yorkie as a gift. That way she'll know your wonderful intentions. And maybe you guys can go puppy searching together. It would be difficult to find a good quality puppy in that price mark. Especially in NYC.(I live in NYC area also) I think it's very thoughtful that you want to help your friend find a puppy as a graduation gift, but like someone said above, it might not be the look, personality she is looking for. It would be better for her to pick it out herself. And if you guys go searching together, perhaps she can find a puppy for $1400 ish, and only have to pay $500 out of pocket for herself towards the puppy. Good luck on your search.

| I am originally from the NYC area..and when my boyfriend started his search for Bella that is where he began. I got Bella in March; asking price for reputable breeders is anywhere from 1500 to 2000 in NYC area. 700-900...I fear what you may get in that area. Puppy mills are a huge problem because the new rave is having a "tiny, portable lap dog". And over breeding and guaranteeing size is common there. However keep in mind...NO such thing as a tea cup yorkie...it's just a money making scan. With no offence intended I hope you realize the work that goes into one of these furbabies...my baby girl is my pride and joy. BUT it's like having a child...waking up to take her out, or direct her to the pad..training...quality time...vet bills...ect. I agree with the other members...I think that springing a puppy on her isn't the best idea..even if she has mentioned it in conversation.

| That's so wonderful. I'm very happy to hear you will go yorkie searching with your friend instead of just buying one. What a lucky girl she is to have such a wonderful friend like you. Now I need to find me a friend that will help pay for another yorkie puppy for me... hrmmmm Helloooo?? Any takers???

| What a lovely gift! I'm so glad you decided to take her to pick out the dog. I live in Brooklyn, and you can buy a Yorkie for that price, but probably only from a pet store. It's not a good idea to do that. Many of the dogs have health issues or are from puppy mills. If you look around though, with a little traveling, you'll probably find a good breeder. Good luck and come here to ask any questions you or your friend have.

| I agree that it might be hard to find a yorkie in NYC for the price you are looking at, but you may be able to find one in a surrounding area for more of a reasonable price if you're willing to travel a little bit . Good luck in your search! |

| other than the obvious, females cost more. Males may "mark" territory and may be more difficult to piddle pad train (I do not know, I have a female) ... otherwise they are all adorable, lovable and cuddly.

| Price issue I mean this with the best intentions - please don't take this post wrong I don't usually post(just read a lot) - but just thinking if you are doing this for a friend any quality, healthy yorkie is beyond a terrific gift. Why are you trying to limit the weight? I understand keeping it in your budget for a gift - but you think she will love it less if its 7,8,9 + lbs??? Not if she is a true yorkie lover~~~has she owned a yorkie before? I know, personally, I think since I love the breed so much, I think there ae just special people out there that all in love with the breed - but everyone doesn't feel that way OR put the amount of time, effort, training, expense involved! Maybe for now she could be your babies "second mom". If the breed is right for her - she will not be so specific about the weight issue. Maybe that is just what you want for her? All size yorkies have a HUGE amount of love and character they will freely give. Healthy, well-bred, quality, good genetics - those are the things I would post I was looking for if it was a gift. You would feel aweful if you found a smaller one and it had health problems, behavioral problems, etc. Talk about expenses involved - you don't want to tax your friend financially with a gift either, right? This is forever - maybe she is a close enough friend that she realizes what is involved - if so - maybe talk to her about what you would like to do and she can help with any extra you might need to spend. Plus she has shots, food, training, toys, clothes, etc. It is a gift that gives on giving - but the receiver has to be prepared for all that is involved in a yorkies (or any pet) care every minute of every day for hopefully 15 +- years!!!

When they were born, i was there helping her out. I saw that she was very over protected of her puppies and i felt that she would be uncomfortable for people to start holding her puppies. i Do hold them but they stilll have their eyes closed they are only 1 week. When they were 3 days old i dont think its nice for little kids to start playing with them. But i do not have a problem when they are 2 weeks to be held and played. Both my dogs are the really friendly and everyone plays with them. you made me sound like a person that doesnt give enough love to my dogs. Ahhh, a person that names their dogs princess and gucci i think that person give almost everything to their dogs. I buy my dogs at least 2 to 3 thousand dollars stuff monthly or 2. I just dont want the puppies getting hurt the first week because if they brake a bone now, then they are damaged for life. got my point. = ] | |
