| I know how you feel about wanting to breed Yorkies. The fact that people are willing to pay 1 or 2K for them is absurd. I think that your idea is wonderful!!! You obviously know it is a lot of work no matter what breed you pick. But here in Florida our Yorkies go for anywhere from $350- $850. max! and the people who breed them refuse to sell them for higher-- that is they breed them for the pleasure of companionship, not championship. I think what Ohio needs is someone like you to bring that outrageous price down. The only reason why people get away w/ the higher price is b/c there is no low price, so start one!!! more power to you. Don't let anyone tell you different. I have been looking for a Yorkie and want to rescue one and let me tell you that you can find them cheaper. Go for it!! as a matter of fact, the rescue webites have several in Ohio-- not sure about puppies though. |

| There is no way I could sell a pup for 350$ I have that much at least in each pup itself. Not counting what I spend on the dam and sire or unforseen problems. Breeding yorkies isn't cheap or easy. If you can get one for that much they are cutting costs somewhere. Probably care. There are lots of Yorkies in Oh. There are lots of Yorkies needing rescue for a reasonable cost. Anyone who wants a Yorkie should always check out Petfinder.org or any of the rescue sites first. Especially if cost is a factor. |

| I must say once again. I disagree. There are several breeders here in Florida who have been breeding for several years (one of them own a very reputable dog grooming business) and she does not sell a puppy for anything more than $750.00. That is with shots, complete blood tests, docking the tails, etc. She even has an entire "nursery" where she keeps the mother and puppies and she has a live webcam that you can watch and see the puppies at specific times. Yes, it is expensive and time consuming to breed Yorkies, ANY dog for that matter, but it is also a way for not-so-nice people to make a lot of money if the consumer does not know they can get a QUALITY, healthy happy puppy for less. Kepp looking!!! I know you can find something in your price range, unless you want a champion bloodline. Don't be fooled by the price tag. ![]() Hey, check this out!!!! http://tammispuppies.tripod.com/puppies.html Last edited by misty; 02-03-2005 at 07:42 AM. |

I live in Ohio, and I did extensive research and had many discussions with various breeders all over the state for a year prior to purchasing, and there was not a Yorkie puppy under $1,000 to be found from anybody reputable. The back yard puppy mills will sell them for $850 if that's what you really want to purchase, with no health guarantees or anything else. NOT what I wanted. I even investigated many breeders online in other states, just to compare, and again, did not find a registered Yorkie girl for under $1,000. I paid $1,200 for my Gracie, and she's worth every dime and then some. Perhaps I could have paid less buying from a breeder in another state, but I did not feel comfortable paying any price for a dog that I had not seen or interacted with. Perhaps other states such as Florida have an abundance of Yorkie breeders and demand requires a lower price? | |

| No, I don't believe we have an abundance. But I think it is more of a Northern and Southern thing. I just moved from VA and I could not find any Yorkies for less than $800.00. I refused to pay that much and kept searching. Thus, when I moved back home I found several breeders , quality breeders for a lesser price, NOT lesser quality or love or health, just people who don't want to gouge the consumer. I agree, I would NEVER by any puppy from someone where I could not observe the environment, observe the litter of puppies and meet with the breeders. So, for obvious reasons, if you live hours away from Florida I would not suggest that. Unless you plan on taking a trip to sunny Florida There are puppy mills in every state but I have had Poms, Malteses, Poodles and Golden Retreivers and I have never paid more than $500.00 for any of them and they were all joys of animals. Lesser price does not always mean lower quality. You can not use the words "always" and "never" becuase that is just not the case, in any aspect of life. |

| I just want you to know that Mary Elizabeth and the entire YTNR organization have to be the cruelest bunch of women I have every encountered. I surrendered my dog to them on a Saturday and asked for Kaylee back on Sunday. My wife has a medical condition and I thought surrendering Kaylee was the best for all concerned. I quickly learned it had the exact opposite effect on my wife. YTNR has refused to even consider an exception to their policy to let me have our Kaylee back. I have offered to fly to Tennessee to meet with her -- she has refused. I have offered a donation to the organization of $1000.00 to let us have her back. I have offered to let them come visit our house to see where Kaylee lived -- they have refused. I have submitted a doctors report that clearly says my wife's condition would be helped if they would return Kaylee -- they have ignored it. They clearly do not care about my wife's health despite the doctor's recommendation. I haven't found one person yet who could understand the cruelty these people have shown by not returning our dog. One of their own volunteers recommended that Kaylee be returned -- but Mary Elisabeth simply refuses. |

| Some breeders won't sell if they feel you don't need one. And will tell you that even if they have a house full. Good breeder don't just sell to anyone. Especially someone showing interest in breeding that doesn't know their stuff. |

| Hi I just have to kind of disagree with Misty, I think it depends where do you live regardless of the state. I live in Florida Naples area and you can not find a Yorkie for Less than $900. I could drive to Tampa and get one for maybe $500. but not for someone reputable, I even try miami area I think $650 was the cut off. I had been doing my homework for a year and still ended up driving a little bit over 2 hrs to get mine and it was over $900. I believe breeding is a hard job. Veterinary expenses, food , and heartbreakes which are price less, I do believe is outrageous to pay over $2000. for a puppy but, I understant breeders when they charge, because it is hard to maintain good healthy puppies. and at the same time there is so many unwanted animals, we can just adop and is cheaper. I guess it depends on a persons choice, pay if you can & want or don't want to & can't adopt. I also believe if they are been breed just to breed and make a quick few bucks why bother. I do want a puppy from someone that is breeding for championship, someone that is breeding to better the breed and not just to have pupies .when I look back at how much I paid for my baby I don't regret it. I have a sweet healthy baby, that was worth every penny & more Is not that I have anything against mix breed dogs, animals are all cute & sweet regardless of pedigree or championships. but when I look some breeders is sad as to why some of them are doing it.. | all you guys that live in the Bowling Green, Liberty Center, Toledo area: There is an older man in wheel chair that breeds yorkies. and lots of them. we counted at least 25 in a small trailer just on the edge of Perrysburg. (and he said a lady next door to him breeds yorkies also). I think he advertizes regularly in the newspaper. I found him in the Lima paper when we were looking before we got Ahia. I wish I had called the athorities on him. The place was so filthy. Beware. Just wanted to warn you. He said he used to show yorkies. I can't remember his name or the name of the street.
