| List of USDA Registered Breeders Here! http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_wel...rt_holders.txt It's a PDF file. I'm pretty sure this list is a little outdated. I can't find a postable link to an updated one, but you can always google the kennel/breeder name in quotes. FYI: Most people consider USDA licensing BAD. It means the kennel/breeder has a lot of dogs/breeds

| From what I heard at my all breed AKC dog club meeting - USDA kennels cannot have a pet in their own home, but must house all animals in another building. Not my idea of pet friendly. I would have to move out there with the dogs. T. |

| They have 12 people with the same last name, some of them belong to the same Kennel, what a damn shame!

| I'm really confused about the whole USDA thing. Does it mean the breeder purposely applied to be licensed by the USDA, or does it mean they have been reported or something and had to be inspected? I can't believe a government agency (or maybe I can believe it) would have regulations that call for housing animals outside....even if you want to keep them in the house.....please someone help me understand this!! I found Pippa's people on the list-I already knew she was probably a puppy mill baby because my daughter's boyfriend bought her from a lady he met in a wal-mart parking lot. Pippa was a surprise (big surprise-he didn't even ask us if he could give her a puppy), so I was not involved in how she was obtained. It absolutely makes me sick to think about....

| Thanks for posting, I think I recognize one of the breeders I visited in my search. It was close to Cullman and the lady showed me 3 yorkies, asking 500-950. per female pup and would not let me see either of the parents. The pups were beautiful, however I was suspicious when she attempted to show me pictures of some of the other parents that she had.. As I made up a story as to the reason I would drive 2-3 hours back home to think on it I noticed she had 50+ outside cages of dogs of all breeds..it was a scary sight. I do wonder, if they are licensed by usda does it necessarily mean they are mills? Why would a breeder get licensed by usda other than to see to pet stores, etc? If these are AKC pups, why does AKC allow these mills to operate? Am I asking questions that run too deeply? Is it just all about money? |

| Why would a breeder of many champions do any co-breeding with a USDA breeder? |

| You need to go and look in to the new PAWS law that AKC and USDA are trying to get passed, it is them combining together on the dog breeders. It is causing a big stink all around. USDA means that a person it inspected once a year to make sure that they are keeping their dogs and kennels up to standards and taking care of the animals. there are different degrees of USDA license. and yes one is to be able to sell to businesses, not just out the door.

If the PAWS act is passed, will reputable breeders be forced to house their dogs, outside in a kennel? Sheila | |
