| Teacup girl wanted in East Tennessee Hi there everyone. My name is kat. I stumbled upon this site and it looks like their is a lot of info to be absorbed. So I joined. My little abbie died a few months ago, but she was just a little mutt dog. I love andmiss her dearly. A friend of mine has a yorkie and she is the cutest little thing ever, but she has some sort of respiratory problem. Is that common in yorkies? She says she got her from a breeder at a flea market somehwere off i-75 in tennessee. Regardless, I am looking for a little purse yorkie - looking to spend less than $1000. not too interested in shipping, so I'd like to stay in the east tennessee/southern kentucky areas. I live in Gatlinburg and work full time at an amusement park. I just started my research and obviously still have lotsto learn. I did a google search and found afew breeders - graysons kennels, snow white obessesion yorkies, mystic mountain yorkies and moon valley yorkies. Any info on these breeders would be much appreciated. Look forward to lurking around and reading everyones posts. |

First of all, don't be looking for a breeder advertising and selling Teacups. They are undersized poor representatives of the breed. often they come with a lot of health issues and cannot be toted around in a purse, they are too delicate. Some advertising Teacups will sell you a pup that can end up quite large. A nice size for a yorkie is about 5 lbs or so. However, when you are buying a puppy, no breeder can actually guarantee the size. They can get bigger than expected or smaller. Good luck in your search. You might try the YTCA their website is Yorkshire Terrier Club of America and click on the Breeder tab. Expect to be interviewed and approved as a prospective new owner.

To the OP, if I'm wrong I do apologize and please follow Lorraine's recommendations and information. With all the other threads back and forth, I've become skeptical and don't know what to believe anymore.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Whoa - If you're serious in your questions - then please do MORE research and maybe you'll understand why I'm going to say what I'm saying. The term Mutt is a bit disrespectful to a dog - saying a dog 'Is JUST A mutt' in my opinion makes it sound like they are less of a dog than other dogs..... Please don't buy a dog just to put in your purse. That's no reason to have any living animal in your life. A dog should be treated as a dog and bought only because you WANT one.... not to be a fashion accessory. If you're really wanting a tiny yorkie - you may want to read up alot more - tiny yorkies can have many health issues and unless you're ready to devote a ton of time and money to your pet - then maybe look for a larger healthier puppy from a reputable breeder - That means NO pet stores - NO flea Markets and watch out for the online 'breeder' sites - many are just awful. Regarding your friend: Flea Markets are HORRIBLE Places to get any dog at - I wish they were outlawed from selling animals as with people on the side of the road...... - the poor dogs are normally smuggled into the country and come complete with parvo and other terrible illnesses due to NO VET CARE - your friend needs to take her puppy to the vet immediatly. Her puppy may have a serious illness since she 'bought' from a Flea Market. And linking to those kennels ? Please dont give them free advertising - maybe some will know them - but it's always better to call one first then ask for opinions - someone may have experience with them I kind of hope all this is just to play with our heads.....the purse puppy thing makes people nuts ! (no offense if you're for real) |

And on the flea markets, yes it is a nightmare and also pet stores. Recently a pet store selling sick dogs trucked in from who knows where, was shut down because of an outbreak of parvo. And yes, they were being sold sick, many died.
