Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Wanted a small Yorkie Hi, I am new here and was thinking seriously about getting a Maltese but I am finding they are so expensive and hard to even get a retired one. If anyone here knows where I can get a retired female no bigger than 3.5 - 4 lbs, I would appreciate it very much if you pass the info onto me. I have 2 young children 7 and 10 but they are very good with dogs as we have a Samoyed. I also have a Sphynx. I visit family in PA and can even go there to get one if needed. VA, MD is okay too. Thanks. |

Quite frankly, a dog that small would not be a good mix with young children.

As for a smaller weight, even if their could be one found, I can tell you one of my Sphynx weighs only 6 pounds. She is healthy but some Sphynx are know to be born small. She is in great health. I actually have a friend looking for a small Maltese or Yorkie in her small town in PA for me. Some people have been know to have to give up their dog due to bankruptcy or foreclosure so as sad as I feel for them, I may be able to get a darling puppy so it won't end up in the shelter to be put to sleep. This is a great site with lots of good information. What Ladymom is trying to tell you is that, REPUTABLE breeders don't breed their females at 3.5-4 lbs. So it would be hard for you to find a "retiree". If you have never owned a yorkie before this site has tons of info about yorkies, they are not like typical dogs. Little ones are "cute" but are prone to alot more problems. I am not sure how big your current dog is, but a 3.5lber may not be suitable for a large breed dog if they have not grown up together. NObody is trying to be rude, we just are passionate about yorkies and care about them very much. You won't find one for cheap unless you do get an older one, I find yorkies are more expensive then maltese.

A female can cost 2500 to 4000 and a male from 1500 to 2500. Depending on the breeder.

Most Maltese is 4-7 lbs and get one that is a true 4lbs is hard. 4lbs is about the smallest I have seen. they are look about the same size as yorkies, but their body is thicker, and I have if you have them in a long coat than will weigh about a pound more becuause of hair. Most you will find will be around 5 -6 lbs Good luck. PS I have found that some breeds call their 5lbs dogs, 3.5 lbs. Not sure where they get their scales but they are off.

YT Addict | You can find Maltese alot cheaper or maybe it's just around me. I am a small breeder and raise Maltese and Yorkies. I have AKC Champion Bloodlines and with the economy around here and it being summer time I just place 4 males (with out papers) for $400 to get them placed in good homes. This time last year a litter from the same mome and dad sold with papers for $800. |

As for Ladymom...my cats are small and I am sure a Yorkie is no smaller than they are and my kids are great with the cats so I see a Yorkie to be no different. Especially the ones I saw that were bigger than a cat. Trust me, they are not going to hurt or kill the dog. I am on vacation and I saw a lady walking her Yorkie and it was not as small as some I have seen. I thought they were all the same size. I would not want a

Just to let you know but most all of the toy breeds have been known to have live shunts. It's not just Maltese. Yorkies, and shih Tzu can also have them, but I have been breeding for just a few years now and I have not ever had a one with that problem. I know a great breeder that breed Maltese for 24 years and had 1 with a live shunt in 24 years. Every breed can have something to go wrong. You have to which for luxating patella in toy breeds too.

Yorkies are more prone to luxating patellas than Maltese, too. They are ranked #4 in cases of luxating patellas by the OFA whereas Maltese are ranked #39. OFA: Patellar Luxation Statistics Whichever breed you choose, it is very important to get a puppy from a reputable breeder who carefully screens for genetic conditions before breeding. A reputable breeder should be able to show you the results of bile acids tests on the parents (screens for liver disease and shunts) and proof that both parents knees have been cleared for luxating patellas. My comment about the age of your children was not a reflection on your children, but just a heads up that most reputable breeders won't place either Maltese or Yorkies in homes with young children.

| I emailed Katie IT"S A SCAM! Hello thanks for the concerned and your interest in my puppies. They are potty trained , A.k.c registered , vet checked and will come with all papers needed . these puppies are very playful and also good with kids and other household pets. they have a wonderful temperament.. They are 13weeks old and i am looking for a new home for them because we just moved into a new and non pet apartment in Anchorage/AK .one is a male and the other is a female, they are called MAC and PINKY .precious is the female and Eddie is the male. All i am asking is the transportation fee of $200 for one, which you will pay directly to the transport company and not me to transport these puppies from Alaska anchorage to your location. All i need is just a very caring and loving home for my babies where they will be well loved and spoiled to rotten ..That is the reason why i don't wish to collect any money from you but rather prefer that you pay for the transportation of your puppy/puppies directly to the transport company so that you should feel secured of your money for transport .i wish to know if you are interested i n both puppies or just one.but i will prefer that you take both puppies since they have been together since they were born and separating them will not be a good idea. email me for more information if you are interested in the puppies so that i can educate you on how to go about getting the puppies delivered to your location.thanks and waiting to read from you. Regards. this is what I got in reply. Admin please bann this scammer. |

| I have a 5 month old female that is 3.1 ibs. Not sure how much bigger she will get but her father is 3.3 ibs and her mother is 4.3. She is precious. and actually really good with kids. Our friends have 6 kids, and every time they come over she goes crazy playing with them all! I am selling her for $650. Shipping would be $150 and we could meet you at the nearest airport with her. PM me if you are interested. |
