| I'd pass, and wait until the 12th. How about asking if Cathy can send you photos of the parents? If after looking at the Shenanigans' pups you decide that you prefer a pup from first two litter maybe they'll still be available.

| Thanks for writing. Something just keeps pulling me to Cathy at Shenanigan's. I think it's just b/c I spoke to her for almost an hour on the phone and she was sooo nice, plus I have heard amazing things about her and her pups. I am concerned I don't know what the parents look like, but I just have a feeling I wont be disappointed. Plus there are a few distinct things sticking in my mind about Susan and I can't seem to shake them. This may be perfectly normal, but I find it so strange that she gives up her dogs once they are done having pups. The Mom of one of the liters is going to a rescue shelter this week after she is spayed. Now I know I'm not a breeder, but I would absolutely fall in love with any dog I had and wouldn't be able to give him/her away, breeder or not. So the fact that she has no problem with this makes me feel like this is more of a business for her than anything else. Her husband on the other hand came across completely different, he seemed to adore the dogs. Another thing bugging me is the fact that the Mom of the other litter was shipped to Susan and bites. They think she was maybe raised in a kennel and that's why she is the way she is, but I am concerned as her pups get older they may follow the same habits. Next, there are a few posts back in May made by Susan about health issues. This makes me concerned that somewhere down the line her dogs weren't healthy. Now I know this may not affect the pups I may purchase now, but it makes me wonder. Last but not least, again this may be normal for breeders, but I don't like the fact she tapes their ears up if they have a tendency to go down. I personally like a Yorkie with its ears down, even if that's not the way they are "supposed" to be. Everyone reading this is probably thinking I'm insane, but these are all the things going through my head. |

| Actually I think you are quite normal and doing your homework. There are too many negatives, and warning signs with the first breeder. I'd definitely pass, and see the Shenanigans' pups. It's worth taking the time now, and getting the pup you like from a good breeder. It seems like you are establishing a good rapport with Cathy, and it will make choosing a pup more comfortable for you. The pup will be part of your family for years to come.

| Who are you? What a nerve you have. I know Susan, my sister, and I'll have to point out these posts to her. She'll be hurt but needs to know the damage that's being done to her here. My sister has her talents but is very dumb with people, honest to a fault. She told you she was retiring one of her girls by donating her to Yorkies Inc where they be able to raise a few dollars in adoption fees and place her in a wonderful home. She retires her girls at 5 years old out of the kindness of her heart. She'll pay out several hundred in vet fees to get Lucy ready to go--spay, dental, shots, and make a money donation to the agency. What more could you want from her? A money grubber would breed them another 2 years. If you knew anything about Yorkies you'd know that ear taping is extremely common in young puppies. She has no health issues with her dogs. There was one fraudulent health claim and she has the documents to prove she was defrauded. Another health issue came up with one of her tinies, that neck problem atlanto-something or other and I was there and saw with my own eyes and ears how the totally magnanimous way she handled that. Shame on you for this public smudginess. |

| The things you brought up in your post about being concerned because this breeder tapes up puppies ears is unbelievable. All breeders do this if a pups ears are slow in going up. Most ears do fortunately go up on their own but some need a little help. Some won't ever go up no matter what the breeder does and just so you know, floppy eared yorkies are viewed by some as a genetic fault. That's why you don't see ethical breeders breeding floppy eared dogs. granted. some of them are cute tho. Also, most serious breeders do retire their females and place them in good home. is it easy? Absolutely not. Placing an adult dog is the hardest thing I have ever done where my dogs are concerned. That's why at times I have two or three retired girls at once. Like right now, I have two that i love dearly and I know I need to start looking for a home for them but I am in no hurry. it is much easier to let the pups go. The best thing we as breeders can do for our dogs when they are retired is place them in a loving home where they will live out their days as little princesses instead of being with a bunch of young breeding dogs that get on their nerves. This especially applies to those of us that keep our dogs in our home right along side the family. Last edited by Sugar's Mom; 11-27-2008 at 05:42 PM. |

| I'm sorry you misinterpreted what I said, but I am just trying to make a wise decision on getting a puppy. Yes I know Susan, magicgenie, is on the forums often, she has pm'd me several times. I am not saying anything against her or any other breeder, I was simpy asking questions. |

| I wish you had asked me your question directly rather than broadcast them where they are subject to all kinds of interpretation problems, but never mind. Let me defend my Heidi, my little biter. She was one of the last of the Judabob's, sent to me by Kathleen Parsley shortly before her death. Many of the real breeder on this forum knew her or her dogs, originating from Wildweir. Heidi is a little neurotic, came to me at 1 year of age, lived with me a few months, then with my parents for a time before returning to me for breeding. Somewhere along the way she became neurotic and does not like to see new people. I can provide a list of every person who has a puppy from her and each will attest that there are no temperament problems whatsoever. Maybe Heidi is just smarter than the rest of us! |

| 1st off, I want to say thanks for all the advice we were given here about our little princess having babies.Thanksgiving morning was her big day and we now have 4 adorable lil pups. The birth went smoothly, her first time and she was a champ. Now, we'll be looking for good homes for these guys in a few months. Both parents are registered/papered and we bought them both in Brasil. Mom is Fofuxa ( say Foe Foo Shah)4 years old, a sweatheart, medium size. Dad is Xaba ( say Shabba ) and he's only 9 months old but a spunky lil man. We live in Boston right off the highway. They'll been taking visitors in a week or 2. We're not breeders but we may register the litter under a new breeder registration, I'm still figuring all that out. We'll be taking deposits by Christmas and they'll be ready for a new family by early February, about 9-10 weeks. I'll have some pics up soon. Keep us in mind. It would be great to stay in touch and place them within the local Boston Yorkie Community.Feel free to PM me with questions, or just post here. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| I'm also looking for a pup in MA and I don't really understand why people have gotten so mad at t1771. It seems like he/she is just trying to get answers and opinions from others. I think a lot of people looking for pups would benefit from answers to these questions. Although many of us do research on the breed and breeders, we still have no way of knowing what common breeder practices are. Instead of attacking this person, I think answers would have been more beneficial for everyone. As t1771 stated, these may be all normal breeder things to do, he/she didn't say they are wrong in anyway, they were just asking the opinion of others. |
