Simply put...

All her other dogs came from champions - they weren't one - and almost all are from several generations back.

Marshall is a Championed dog. BIG difference in my book.

In fact she posted to set the record straight and hasn't been back to this thread again.
I see everybody else has the issues/concern with Marshall and HOW he was acquired, and if it's ethical or unethical.

For whatever reason...
I just hope he's happy and being well taken care of by the new owners

No, of course not all champions are sired by champions.

Yes, new people do have to start somewhere but it should be - by doing it the right way - not by capitalizing on someone else's hard work. Not because you have the money to buy it.

Doing it the right way is finding a breeder who you like and respect. Work with/for them. Learn as much as you can and then perhaps they'll work with you on a "show prospect" - but I'm sure most will not just hand you a Championed dog!

Yes, this is my opinion, and I'm not always right but I do believe that there are some unwritten rules that we all must honor.

Like I told my kids - ya gotta pay your dues!

Rosanne doesn't have to ask for Marshall to be returned, since he was obtained via the backdoor it would be the expected thing to be done.

What you say is correct. Obtaining dogs was difficult say maybe 10 years ago, however people obtaining lines via the backdoor has caused breeders to clamp down on their lines.

I support ethical breeding/breeders. Just what is it that people have to start somewhere? If it's ethical breeding, then those with integrity acquire their dogs through the proper channels and not through back door acquisitions.

You did not see her website the other day, I did. I was appalled at how for a price, dogs could be bought with full registration, IMO ethical breeders would not promote/sell their dogs this way.

That is your opinion about "paying your dues". However, if you use a champion stud have YOU paid your dues? Nope. You did not produce or champion him. You have capitalized on someone elses hard work.

Some championed dogs have nothing but a champion sire, then look down to the 4th generation for the next champion.

You very much can purchase a championed dog. Do some homework and you will see that. Check puppyfind and see what pops up. They are out there if you have the checkbook.

I too believe in unwritten and written rules. One is to be kind to your neighbor. I have not seen that here much. Except from the OP who was quite nice to the new owner. I also hope that Marshall Dillon is in a good home that loves him finally. Not just for "show" or as a commodity. I hope he is living like the little prince that he should have been all along.

You see this all the time on websites where people that have obtained Champions via the backdoor....it's still called what you say captilizing on someone elses blood, sweat and tears.

I do know the breeder and yes she was nice to the OP, however, it doesn't mean that she is happy about it. Does she want Marshall back, you betcha.
