YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Hotels/Washing/and Water softener? Hi all, Question, I think the hotel we stayed in had a water softener and it really did make a difference in the coat when I washed with the same shampoos I use at home. Is there something you can do / add to water to reverse that water softener effect, or should I just wash/rinse with bottled water? Thanks all for your thoughts

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Did the water feel like it wasn't rinsing anything out of the coat? My sis's water north of DFW is soft. When I stayed with her, I hated the water for that reason, no matter how much I rinsed my hair and body, I could still feel soap or some kind of film. I don't think it's easy to change the softness of water, probably would be best to prepare with another water source. Maybe you could shampoo with the hotel water, then rinse the conditioner out with bottled water, for a final rinse?

| I don't know of any device to reverse the softening. Use less shampoo/conditioner than you would with hard water. Soft water requires less soap, or so I have heard. Otherwise, use bottled water. Variations in water quality are one of the things I dislike about traveling, but I have never considered the effects on a show coat. |

Always a first time and last wkend was the first for me. I always travel by car with their at home water for their water bowls etc., but haven't had this problem in hotel before, although it is only the second time Razz has stayed and be washed in an hotel. Going to try wil the bottled water.

| I think there is a product you can get that will help keep the water cleaner and less effect of the softner. I know when I lived in Florida we had a softner. My parent's softner was a lot softer of water than at my own home there. The water smelled like sulfer at my parents, so I guess that is why they had to have it softer. Water can also change the color of ones hair too. NOt much - more like a hue. If you have rusty water it can cause a slight red highlights to your hair and if too much chlorine can color your hair a light greenish color. The water I have now is Spring water from our well and at time we get gold dust in it. Not enough to filter and save - can't get rich off it. Oh well! And I am not sure what floride can do in water. I never thought of that one before. They say there is not much in it - city water - and depends on the city, but I know when I lived in my last house during certain times of the month I could smell chlorine a little. We ended up getting filters on our facets. They always got filled with white stuff and had to empty them or change the filters. |

| I was just reading an article about the thyroid by Dr. Oz and he mentioned the "2nd thyroid-compromising toxin is perchlorate." It is" in our ground water in 43 states now and has been found in almost all water-rich produce" like lettuce, leafy greens, and watermelon. "This is a real danger to the thyroid." I then Googled it and it is really bad toxin. California was mentioned quite a bit concerning this. Yikes! |
