I don't know of any device to reverse the softening. Use less shampoo/conditioner than you would with hard water. Soft water requires less soap, or so I have heard. Otherwise, use bottled water.
Variations in water quality are one of the things I dislike about traveling, but I have never considered the effects on a show coat.
