| ![]() [QUOTE=Brooklynn;3097005] I want to confess that I've am guilty of misconduct too and will happily stand in judgement...I've put hairspray, styling gel, conditioning spray and anti-stat in my dog and that's a fact please with my blessing file a complaint. Oh let me add to this list...shampoo and conditionar that I bathed him with that morning, Vellas Satin Cream, Laminates by Sebastian for shine (although he doesn't need it but it smells pretty) all what would be considered all altering a dogs natural appearance and a foreign substance in the coat...but unfortuantely I guess you'll have to file a complaint on everyone....I guess someone is gonna be really busy LOL |

I will clean his eyes and ears, and trim his nails. Due to the wraps which will need to come out and he will need to be rewashed prior to showing this weekend I will have to iron out a wave in the coat. So there you go... and I am no different than I guarantee the other 99.9% of show exhibitors who need to care expressively for a show coat. Do some enhance, do some color? Obviously yes, but as others has expressed on this thread, there are much bigger issues to be concerned about

| ![]() Section 8-C. I think the topic of grooming products may obscure the issue of color. These rules apply to all breeds. |

![]() I know someone that was excused from the ring because the coat was excessivly oily due to not getting all the shampoo out or maybe it was the water didn't get it out but nonetheless it was excessed for a foreign product in the coat and all it was was the dogs natural oils.... It's all black and white....it's all a foreign product "fact" ![]() | |

| ![]() I guess beagles wear hairspray and gel in their topknot LOL or a pug...so not all breeds would require the same grooming products ![]() |

| ![]() They're not talking about hairspray, grooming gel, etc. here. The word "foreign substance" doesn't exist. I was hoping you'd actually look at your copy of the rules before you replied again. SECTION 8-C. No dog shall be eligible to compete at any show and no dog shall receive any award at any show in the event the natural color or shade of natural color or the natural markings of the dog have been altered or changed by the use of any substance whether such substance may have been used for cleaning purposes or for any other reason. Such cleaning substances are to be removed before the dog enters the ring. If in the judge’s opinion any substance has been used to alter or change the natural color or shade of natural color or natural markings of a dog, then in such event the judge shall withhold any and all awards from such dog, and the judge shall make a note in the judge’s book giving his reason for withholding such award. The handler or the owner, or both, of any dog or dogs from which any award has been withheld for violation of this section of the rules, or any judge who shall fail to perform his duties under this section, shall be subject to disciplinary action. ETA That is the reason you see chalk flying in the grooming areas. They are removing the excess with a brush and a blow dryer. Last edited by straightsilk; 04-22-2010 at 12:58 PM. |

Again if a misconduct is committed, it must be in the ring and the complaint filed by the judge. The rule was put in place with more serious infractions such as dental, phyiscal altering, surgies. And is stated in prior posts, a foreign substance is color, hairspray, gels, topical coat enhancers, anti-stats.....anything, so if a judge really wanted to take it to the max....every dog in the ring and most at a dog show would be dismissed from the ring. Yes, a dismissal, not a disqualification. My next question would be, to the original YT member that brought this out? Am I selling you a show dog? I don't think so. But, if I was I would think you would be a bit more concerned over the health of the dog you were purchasing.

If rules were followed to the T....we aren't even suppose to have conditioner on a dog's coat. This changes the texture of the coat.

| ![]() All I know is that you can certainly "enhance" the appearance of your dog's head with it and can balance out head that might not be the best with the size of the poof.

To me, the answer for you is with the above highlighted. When it comes down to it, it really is about what the judge thinks, right? I think you're splitting hairs ![]()

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() [quote=Mardelin;3097255]I know Mary, and not only for Yorkies either. We as you know have another breed we show and will one day breed, and believe you me there are lots of products that go into that coat, to if needed coarsen the coat, add lift and volumne, and we are not getting into what you can do with a talented pair of scissors. And one of the first things my pro handler said to me when he specialed Magic, well glad to see a few gray hairs, at least you and judge know there is no coloring going on. We have dQ'd if there is a white patch on chest greater than a certain diameter, and the only acceptable color is black or black with some grey hairs. In summertime as we are in the sun alot with training and hiking I will use a color wash to protect the black from going reddish from the sun plus an SPF cream from Plush Puppy which is really great in protecting the coat from sun damage.
