| What Kind Of Coat Does He Have???? Show Ladies...I'm coming to you as I think you all know what kind of coat my Teddy has...I've begged and pleaded trying to find out what type of coat this little boy of mine has... I can't take him anywhere for anyone to view it in person so I'm coming to you for help. He is 3.5 years old now.... And his coat is Curly when wet like you just put a perm in it or stuck his paw in a socket from his I'd say wee, wee back to his tail...& so thick, when dry...NO natural Shine to his butt at all, dull and dry, frizzy too...His 4 Paws are this way too...Altho they do shine more then his back end does...Mats badly there and on his paws also...I mean badly. Hard to brush/comb out wet or dry or spritzed down. Grows ??? Kinda slower then his front?? Or it could be do to it being curly that is always looks shorter then his front??? Very thick, very thick. (He has NOTHING in his coat as far as oils or anything, I didn't keep him in oil as much as my other 4) Now his head, muzzle back to his wee, wee is beautiful...& so thick, straight as a board, not a curl one, when wet or dry, has natural shine to it, not dry or fizzy at all, no matting at all here...Grows fast...Super fast. (He has NOTHING in his coat as far as oils or anything, I didn't keep him in oil as much as my other 4) So what coat does my little boy have??? Here is 4 different photos of his coat...I know some of them look the same but they are not as if you look hard they are at different views...I did this so you could see him better. I'm also going to post 3 more of him in this same thread. Can you give me your Wisdom on this and honest thoughts...I truely need to know. Thanks for all your help Hugs Lee |

Well from the pictures I'd say a soft coated dog with the rear coat a mix of the cottony coat but without having my hands to feel it hard to say. Head and front coat look to be a modified silk to me but again hard to say without being able to touch it. I hope that helps some at least from my perspective Donna | |

| Teddies Coat 2 & More Questions... Below is more photos of Teddy and one of his coat wet and Tiffanies coat wet also side by side so you can see the difference in their coat types.... Teddy has sired 10 puppies for me and not a one has his coat texture except maybe his thickness but no curl at all...But our Tiffanie (Our Damn that was bred by Teddy) had a thick, heavy silk coat.... Teddies Great Grand Sire is Champion...I can't find anything on Teddies side of the family as of yet... His Dam and Sire was small when we went to pick Teddy out of his litter, they was on site...All the litters threw out by Teddies parents we're small....This I know I ask his breeder they we're all under 6.5 lbs and some smaller. Like 3 lbs. I don't know their coat types as I didn't know what I was doing back then...I just don't know what to do...I feel Teddy is throwing out smaller babies as Tiffanies side (IS) big...Her damn and her great damn threw out 1 big one every litter as Tiffanie did... So now do I retire Teddy??? Do I use him anymore in my Breeding Program??? I just don't know what to do... Keep in mind we had Tiffanie Spaded due to throwing out those 2 big Yorkies that both as adults weigh over the AKC Limit....Tiffanie does have Champion in her line but they are farther back in her line then Teddies Champion is...I do have some names on Tiffanies lines but not all yet. Any help in his coat and any help in what should I do??? Thanks for any Wisdom you can pass along to me. Hugs Lee |

| Boy does that boy have a round rump!! He reminds me of an Old English Sheep dog. Teddi is softer towards the rear than the front but not curly. Does he have other qualities that are so fantastic that it makes the coat texture risk worth it? You have to decide if his assets are something that you must have in your line and that the risk of fluffy yorkies are worth trying to obtain those assets.

| i just sold an adult that has the same coat. Straight on the front and just like your coat on the rear. I have to say, I never, ever had to comb a matt out of it so I can't truly say it is a cotton coat. maybe modified. She was a joy to groom. |

| Here is my rule of thumb.....If there are more than 3 faults I do not use in my breeding program. I usually use the 2 thumb rule but normally if they have 3 or more faults I spay or neuter. I go with structure, movement, good bite, the coat and so on....if I have a bite problem I normally don't keep in my breeding program, but coat plays an important role after the structure and movement of the dog but coat is probably second after that and then the bite and then ear set. I hope this helps Donna |

| coat I'd say he's soft coated. coat is of primary importance when breeding, ESPECIALLY as a stud dog. I have a friend who started with a soft coated bitch, its been over 6 years, and she gets about 25% silk bred to nice silk male, the rest soft coated. Very difficult to get rid of. My advice, neuter him. Find the very best stud with true silk to breed to your girl. |

| Lee, you have received some very good advice here. All I can say is that he has an improper coat and other faults so I would not recommend using him in your breeding program. |

2: lack of pigment on eye rims 3: probably not a good top-line which will effect movement I do like his ear set!!
