Eyes I know this is for Showing but with all the people here that show their dolls I'm needing help on getting those beautiful eyes to not matt when their eyes discharge. Why do they do this? I wash them out with plain water and a wash cloth every single morning. What do U all use on U're dolls? Is there something we can buy to keep them from doing this so we don't have to put them through wiping every day? It makes their eye hairs so rough too and gets tangled & matted. I have 2 cottony coated babies 1 male and 1 female, then 3 silkies 1 male and 2 females. I have 1 gal "Sage" who has the "Redleg Gene" and her eyes are clear as bells, not a drop of eye discharge EVER...Does this "Eye discharge" have something to do with genes, coats or what? How do U all keep those "Show Dolls" eyes so dry and beautiful looking, they never look nasty. Now after I wipe them out they pretty well stay clean all day long. I'm letting ALL 5 grow LONG coats, I care for them every single morning and tend to pony tails all day long! Please can U help me to keep them so pretty like U're babies.

Maintaining a show coat is a lot of work. Once facial hair starts getting long most show breeders put wraps on the facial hair, even under the eyes to soak up moisture. You have to change the wraps daily. Some people just use the little latex bands to keep the hair away from the mouth. I really don't think you would want to go that route. If you have a dog with a cottony coat then it is even harder to grow coat because it breaks easier. I am just learning myself about growing show coat so I really can't be of much more help.

Here is a link to a website that shows how to wrap a Yorkie. There is one picture that shows the face. http://members.cox.net/jrogan/wraps.html I sounds like you are doing a good job already. It is a lot of work. Some people keep then in oil but that does not help with the eye issue you have.
