| You're right. I hope some day legislation is passed to stop selling pups out of pet stores.

| up late can't sleep!!! OH well here goes.I think less people are trying to adopt yorkies from rescues because all the restrictions put on them.IT is just unrealistic especially where size is concerned.I tried adopting from a rescue 4 to be exact before I went to a breeder and because of my son's age(5) was turned down time again.I DID HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO WITH HER ALSO (BUT!she gave me a chance and told me it was an open door bring him back if it did not work).I have to say you do have to be careful but a careless person will neglect a bigger dog as well as a small one.I have two 4lb yorkies that my son does very well with and we have never had an accident. If they just focus on people in general who love the breed or dogs in general they may have better luck.BUT I believe why do I have to go through all this crap for an old sick dog with who knows how many problems and I can go get this cute cuddley baby and love on him less the FBI interrogation. GOOD BREEDERS!! ask a lot of questions also but they are more dog oriented and I believe can judge people more accurately.

| You Are So Right I also tried to adopt from a rescue group and without a small child in the family was still confronted with major obstacles. I "passed" the phone interview with one group and then couldn't get anyone to come for a home visit. Then one group wouldn't share any information with another. I'm guessing they're so in need of the rescue fee that they forget about putting an animal in a good home as quickly as possible. We worked the process for 2 months without any success. The rescue process was very disappointing and needless to say, we found Johnny through a pet broker.

| I have 2 rescue yorkies. My experience was quiet different, at the time of our (my daughter and me) adoption, my daughter was 8. When we saw our Jethrow he ran up to her and would not get out of her lap. It was love at first sight. The lady at the rescue was so nice and was so thrilled that they bonded so quickly. We were very lucky with Jethrow, he was in great health and has continued to be in great health (of course with regular check-up). Our second adoption was through another rescue and this time we adopted a little old lady that had a really bad life at a puppy mill, Missy was 9 years old when we got her and in really bad health. She had to have all her teeth removed, had mammory cancer, a herrnia, and an infection. Needless to say $2000.00 later she is a health girl. She follows me around everywhere I go and gets really upset if I get out of her site. We have noticed that her hearing and sight is getting much worse but we make sure that she knows where we are at all times. A lot of people thought that I was crazy to adopt her and spend all this money on her at the age she was but she has now been a member of our family for 3 years and is doing great. I could not image my life without these babies. Just wanted to share a great adoption story!!

I did, however, have a fantastic experience with the Pennington County Humane Society in Minneapolis (where I adopted my four-year-old rescue, Tika). The operations manager, Dawn, is a doll and was only concerned with the best interests of the dog. She saw how my five-year-old daughter interacted with Tika and the cats in the shelter. I was so impressed with Dawn and the organization that I am volunteering my time to design them a new website. Rescue organizations need to reconsider their blanket policies that exclude families with children. | |

| I am from NC and used Melinda at the local SPCA. This SPCA is not federally funded it is funded by the community and donations only. Melinda is a dream!!!!!!! She is the hardest working lady that I know. I could never image my life without my babies. I knew that they had problems but also had no idea what a good home and real love were all about, well now they do!!!! Alot of people thought that I was crazy to adopt Missy the 9 year old with most of the health problems but she had such a horrible life and just needed someone to love and care for her. I would adopt another older yorkie in a minute, it has been the best experience of my life. I even got my parents in on the adoption thing. They adopted a mixed breed that is the apple of there eye now. My Mom says that she will only ever adopt in the future!! I tell everyone that I come in contact with about puppy mills and how the dogs are treated and to please look into adoption before they buy. And if they are going to buy them please research the breeder and do a site visit to see how the parents are cared for. I am in no way knocking breeders who are doing things the right way, I know there are some really great breeders but there are alot of really bad breeders also. Anyway just my thoughts - thanks for listening.

| Thank you! How lucky she is to have you! Not all rescue groups would have adopted your little one out in her condition. Most would take care of her teeth and tumors before the adoption took place hence needing funds from the younger healthy pups to support the older sicker dogs. Your an angel for fixing her body and her soul. Thank you! Quote:

| I never actually adopted Annie from a rescue group. She was seized (independently) by a colleague of mine, Lisa, who owns a moving company. Lisa happened to be on sight at a house her business was moving and noticed Annie tied up in a corner of a decrepit house covered in her own excrement from nobody cleaning her up. Lisa grabbed a towel, picked up the dog and announced she was seizing the dog and if they had a problem with it they could call the Humane Society or the police. The "low life" people that had her just shrugged their shoulders and seemed relieved to get rid of her. I went to Lisa's business to do a photo shoot and met Annie and fell in love with her. When Lisa saw how I was with her, she let me have her. Annie's health issues could not be dealt with medically and we really had little choice to put her to sleep (even though I was in denial at first). If we only had to extract the teeth, laser the breast cancer and open her up hoping we were lucky enough to be able to remove the two huge tumours - it would have been a possibility. The vet said that after recovering, she would likely have started to fade from the failure of her liver. If it was just the teeth, breast cancer and tumours it would have been worth a try. Everything combined with her liver made everything very bleak. |
