I also tried to adopt from a rescue group and without a small child in the family was still confronted with major obstacles. I "passed" the phone interview with one group and then couldn't get anyone to come for a home visit. Then one group wouldn't share any information with another.
I'm guessing they're so in need of the rescue fee that they forget about putting an animal in a good home as quickly as possible. We worked the process for 2 months without any success.
The rescue process was very disappointing and needless to say, we found Johnny through a pet broker.
