I can't even handle crickets. Those buggers get big and then end up in my room in the basement during the summer. when i see one i usually take the heaviest thing closest to me and hurl it at the bug and then call my father to get rid of it. my old college biology and chemistry books are the best smushers i have. i can't stand the crunch sound when you kill a big. it kills me *shudders*

I grew up in Florida where we had GIGANTIC flying roaches. My mom kept our home spotless but living in an area with a swamp for a backyard roaches would find their way indoors. I can remember at night turning on a light in a dark room and seeing HUGE KILLER ROACHES flying around! I am terrified of roaches!!!!!

OMG! The first time I went to Florida I was at a house & it was night time & the porch light was on & I could see these big bugs flying & landing on the house...I was curious as to what it was so I got up for closer inspection & was shocked that the roaches flew & it was at least 2 in long!

... We drove there & back, after we where home for for a few days we went away on an errand ..I was in the passenger seat... I looked down & a big roach was walking up my knee!! ...I freaked & yelled.... "Pull over!!!"....never taking my eyes off that monster it slowly crept up my thigh, I jumped out at the curb & flung it off....it took weeks to stop looking around in the car when ever we went away....

UMMMM....not to cruel for a cockroach!!! I would either flush it or burn it...I don't know how true this is but I heard they can live without a head for quite a while...even the name is discusting!!

I can relax now, it's dead, gone, burned. I can not believe you kept it as long as you did...I'd be fumigating the whole place...it could've had babies!!!

It most likely came about in transit and had nothing to do with the person who sent it. About 10 years ago, I used to make and sell hand-crafted soaps--it was kind of an artsy thing. Anyway, I was in a co-op with some other soap crafters for these cute little brown kraft bags (all natural looking things). So I ordered a large case from this company in Irvine.

When they came, I opened the box and began to count them out and divide them up. As I was rummaging through the box, I saw this reddish brown thing scurry through it. I screamed at my husband to come, ask no questions, and immediately get the box OUTSIDE! We dumped the box out on the porch--all the while my husband muttering about me being crazy and how there was nothing in the box but some bags. Sure enough, the cretin showed itself! An ugly, big reddish brown with long wiggly legs cockroach!!!

EEEWWWWWWWWW!

They love cardboard, and they love the glue that boxes are sealed with.

That's not fun opening up something with a critter in it but I heard they love glue and stuff like that. I remember an apartment I lived in ...I had to throw out all my phone books cause they were so attracted to them. I'd never seen one till I moved to TX but here we have roaches 2" big ...they live outside and can fly LOL When I first moved here I had one dive bomb me at a pool - I freaked...but after a while you get used to them

Sorry.... just now seeing this post. I was going to pass but I just had to comment (and I'm sure some flamin' is comin' my way - I just couldn't keep this to myself). Yes, maybe us here in Texas are just more used to these kinds of things/bugs and I'm glad you finally killed the thing but honestly, do you think you might have been overreacting just a tiny bit? I feel bad for the person being blamed. I'm sure she would have noticed a roach inside a box that she was packing. I'm quite sure this roach had to have gotten in the box while in transit so it's certainly not fair to blame her/him. And you say you THREW AWAY the items that were sent? Come on..... couldn't they have been washed or sanitized in some way maybe? I'm sorry, I think that's going a little far. I guess being a "country girl" in TX has just made me a little more lax with these things. Not that I "welcome" these things into my life/house but I certainly wouldn't make such a deal over it. It's not like it was some big-a** rat or something.

Now that would have sent me running (especially a TX-sized one!)......

Oh my goodness....I just saw this thread, and I am busting out laughing/vomitting in my mouth...haha. I am originally from MN and just moved to the South this past October...yeah, I've had my first roach experience, and second, third, fourth, and fifth...YUCK!!!!!! I actually had to take a picture the first time to show my fam back home how HUGE they are and disgusting. For y'all's sake, I won't attach it

Glad you got everything fumigated and destroyed!! Although I'm sure (like everyone said) it wasn't there when she/he sent the package. Oh, well, it sure made for a funny story!

Twalla - I hairspray spiders all the time

i do that hairspray thing too!!! works really well for moths and flies too ...sorry i can't stand any kind of bug ....

one time there was this spider in our laundry room in taiwan, literally the size of my hand .. it was HUGE!! and only my mom and i were home, my dad just had to be away on business that weekend .. we both locked the doors, screamed and ran away. but i couldn't stand the idea that a spider was in the next room and the only thing separating me and the spider was a window and my bathroom .. so me had this FABOLOUS idea, lets use water and drown it, or at least flush the spider down the drain ... well that idea didn't work on the spider, it just ended up soaking EVERYTHING in the room, even the clean laundry. haha. so we had to wait til my dad got home 2 days later!!!!!

I have MAJOR roach phobia!!! I too have been attacked by a flying roach. They are common in Japan and I had one fly into the shower with me! Eeeekkk.....! The ones in Japan are about 2" with wings.
