What kind of collar and harness do you use ?

All collars choke when hooked to a leash and just because right now your dog is not showing signs of trachea problems it very well may in the future. Dogs tend not to pull when a collar is being warn because it hurts there necks and chokes them. All it takes is some training when on the harness and they will not pull and there neck will be safe!

The other time he was in the car; something spooked him, he completely flipped out and somehow managed to get the collar stuck on the handbreak. In everyday wear, they stay on perfectly. They hold his tags, and bell. The breakaway is just in case he gets stuck on something. Just like the tags are just in case he gets lost, and the microchip is in case he gets stolen.

I forgot to say one thing, I always take his collar of when I'm not home and when I go to bed and put it on again when I wake up, so he's never with the collar on without supervision

Sophie doesn't wear a collar at all because it seems anything touching her neck makes her cough, so we don't like her wearing one at all. That and she somehow always managed to get it stuck in her mouth, so no more collar for her at all.

We use the L'il Pals step in harness and leash in the purple daisy pattern. I have loved this set...the leash doesn't have a typical metal buckle and it doesn't bother Sophie and we have used the same harness for two years.

I love this harness, but it seems they are hard to find again, because they replaced the harness with one I don't like the look of, and all we can find are boy patterns.

I use just normal nylon step-in harness for Fido in the moment, I just ordered a leather spiked harness for him (like is used on pitt bulls and rotties) so I can't wait to get it and try it out !

With the collars, I use a leather spiked collar for him inside.
On regular walks downtown or on some other place where there are some people I use his martingale collar cause he pulls then but if there aren't many people and I let him run around I use his nylon harness.
I dont like to always use a harness cause then he starts pulling so much.

I have a martingale collar for him like this one and I love it ! It is not so tight that he hurts his throat I have it in that size so he doesnt hurt of it , but when he pulls it gets real tight but it does not choke him or anything

Isnt it OK to use a martingale on yorkies? I've heard about those trachea proplems, he doesnt have that proplem I've always used normal collars and martingales since I got him and his breeder with his dogs too, no yorkie breeder here uses harnesses but also they dont walk theyr yorkies on leash often, my breeder uses martingale collars but they are made of nylon, Fido's martingale is made of chain.

First electric fences (that are illegal in your country, which you stated), and now chain choke collars for your yorkie?! This is really getting ridiculous. I for one will be ignoring this member from now on.

Yes I use it but not often for the leash just when we go outside to let him pee.
Also its so big that it does not choke at all ! its just as loose as his real collar.
I just use this collar for tags it makes him look so tough I use a normal collar for walks but I'm waiting to get my new harness in the mail then I will use it propably always !
The harness I have is not strong at all I'm waiting for my new one

Why is it wrong to use half-chain collar if I dont go on walks with him in it ? Im not a bad dog owner or anything I would NEVER do anything to hurt my babie !
I dont use it for walks just to let him go out and pee and hold the tags, thats not so bad is it?

Its probably heavy for one and two hooking a leash to ANY COLLAR causes pressure on there neck that they dont need.

Oh please don't use that collar on Yorkies, I know some trainers still insist on it, but one of the reasons trainers use it was it was easier to manipulate a large dog. You had to be trained in using it safely, but a 100 pound woman could train a 125 pound dog. With small dogs there's really no need, they will not over power you. A choke collar shouldn't be used to hold tags, if no leash is attached the collar could just fall off, or worse, they could be caught on something and choked. Bottom line though is if you haven't been trained by a professional to use it you should never use it.
