Retractable Leash and harness recommendations?

That's it - the one that's more like a belt than a cord. Just something to think about. The corded one rubbed thin or got caught and broke on us so we got the belt one afterwards. I just felt more secure with the belt one. It's always a trial and error and everyone's situation is just a little bit different. It's just nice to get a variety of view points on all of these purchases we make for our little ones.

I love Cindy's harnesses. We have a couple of sets of harnesses and collars from her and I'd like to get a couple more. Mine don't usually wear collars but we needed to have them wear them on our road trip this past week and I was amazed at how well they tolerated them! Because they're made of silk and lightweight it didn't bother them at all!

The all belt ones are nice, they are significantly more money though. $10 more on e-bay. I just read that the small size doesn't fit hands well... but I'm going to have to see if I can hold one at the store because I don't want to spend $10 extra dollars for a leash rated 44lbs when my dog is only 11. My hands aren't big, so I guess I have to go see them in store.

Thanks, I will take some time to see if I could get a small all belt one... as long as it fits my hand and it's worth the extra money, I'll try to go that route. A medium all belt one is $33 and up though

The smallest size one, the handle really is tiny. I have small hands too, and I was holding it with just my thumb and index and middle finger. It was ok with 3 fingers on and my pinky off, but felt awkward. It was especially hilarious to see bf holding a tiny pink handle with two fingers.

Check amazon too, I think they are cheaper than ebay.

I LOVE the harness and leash sets from Chattiesmon. I have two now and will be ordering more. They come in a variety of colors. They are great for my 5 lb boy. Bailee doesn't wear the harness all the time, just for walks and when he is buckled in his car seat. The leash is not retractable, but it is a good length.

Thanks! I wish it came in just plain black... but I will think about it. I was going to get the longer one, but the all belt doesn't come in 23 feet.

Thanks, I wasn't looking at the extra small/tiny one, is that the one you're talking about?... perhaps the next size up, "small" handle would be okay though?

Yes, I'm checking them out and they are very cute! I'll have to consider that! Maybe one of those for walks where I know she wont get dirty, I would hate to get the beautiful silk harness dirty! Then maybe a puppia one for the romps in the woods!

I just purchased this one,
Flexi Comfort Long 1 Small Retractable Cord Leash 26 ft.
because it's the cheapest I've found for the 26ft one. And I really like the Flexi brand and know it's reliable and I like how they function or whatever.

I saw a 26ft retractable today in the Family Dollar for $5 but I could tell it was probably gonna break within a week, LOL, so I opted not to. I hate shelling out $25 for a leash... but I really want the extra 10 feet.

We have the Puppia original (over the head) style harnesses and I LOVE them! Many people have mentioned problems with the sizing/fit but my guess is that the design doesn't work well for smaller dogs. We, like you, have larger Yorkies (9 and 11lbs) and find that they fit just fine.

I don't like step-in style harnesses. They are too difficult for me to put on because Franklin will just step his foot out of the harness as soon as I put one side on. When we used step-ins we had chattiesmom's silk harnesses and they are beautiful and wonderfully made! They were lightweight and the pups didn't seem to mind or even notice they were there. I will add that because Franklin is 11lbs and a puller, his harness unfortunately didn't last long. I don't think that it was due to the quality of the harness, just the fact that it was made out of silk. I think those harnesses would work much better for smaller dogs or dogs that don't walk every day.

I bought Rosie a Buddy Belt and it's really nice. The leather is soft and light, she prefers it to anything else I've tried.

I did have to order it on line though.

Thanks so much for the links, I'm off to check them out right now! What is it about the over the hard puppia harnesses that didn't fit right? How big are your girls? By hacking sound, you mean your dogs don't chocke themselves and get all bent out of shape while walking with the puppia harness? Thats' exactly why I picked it, because it looks so comfy and like the strain from pulling would be evenly distributed not just on her little neck.

when Phoebe was a pup, we went to a pet boutique and they have them there; the one that was more of her size can't go through her head so we had to got to the next size but I didn't like how did not seat well in her shoulder like it was too big, just did not fit right and the sale girl came and show me the step in of puppia perfect fit, actually it was funny because they sold out all the other colors on step in only had a camo, and that was her first good harness, everybody thought she was a boy, don't help that she lift her legs when she pee lol, but I add some pink lace and some pink heart bling bling on the camo one,now is no question she is a girl lol

I had the same problem with Melody new harness that I order, (doggie desing) now that I know how to use the sewing machine, I fix it, I took some pictures for you, so you know what I'm talking about is not very pretty though, oh well, I'm not a professional seamstress yet
PS: The DG is more lite than the puppia, so not bad for summer times, but I have to be 100% honest, the puppia material is better quality, jmo
but the DG work for dog between sizes, the puppias are more whole sizes, well that is what the vendor told me lol. Is better to invest on a good harness that last, others don't last much and some stuff just fall apart NOT COOL!!
