| Detangling shampoo? Hi everyone! I have a new little yorkie puppy that I have named "Princess". I have had her for almost 6 weeks. Princess is about 17 weeks old. I am finding my little girls hair seems to be getting these tiny little clumps or tangles. Any suggestions on how to keep these from happening and re-occuring? I brush her several times a day, carefully to try to brush these tangle/clumps out. I even read somewhere to use a detangling spray after her bath or while brushing her. And I am also using a shampoo that is supposed to help with detangling. Is there such a thing as a leave in conditioner or something to help with preventing this? So far, it has not been too bad or too difficult to work thru these. But, I fear as she keeps getting older and starts to get more of her adult hair, this problem will only get worse. I can already see that her adult hair is starting to come in as silver, under her black hair. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any suggestions or advice. |

| I hear puppy hair matts really easily. (matt= coat tangles in case you didn't know) My new favorite grooming product is Yorkie Splash and Shine. It's made by one of the vendors here, and it leaves my boy smelling so good and feeling super soft! There is a detangler too which is also a deodorizer. She has sample sizes of everything so you could at least try them out and see if you like it and not get stuck with big bottles of stuff you'll never use. OP......you're dealing with puppy mats and they can be aggravating! The only product that kept Reno from being shaved down as a puppy is the PEK conditioner - it saved both Reno and I numerous hours spent combing out mats. The PEK is great for puppy mats but also the best hair conditioner for adult yorkies too! You can try other brands (like I did - I tried them ALL) but my advice - you'll save money, time and frustration by just ordering the PEK! This thread is long but has lots of good information on the ISB products. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-jencar98.html

| Thank you all for the helpful information. I started doing some research today on the products mentioned. All of these sound great! I used to make all natural soaps and also used to make a dog "shampoo" bar that was also conditioning. I used to sell these at a local Farmers market until health problems stopped me from doing shows. I used to have ALOT of repeat customers that would buy these soaps.... for humans and also the dog soaps. Also made all natural treats for dogs and kitties also. I mention this, because now after researching these shampoos and conditioners, it has inspired me to get out my soapmaking recipe book that I have all my recipes that I created. I have used "Mane & Tail" shampoo and conditioner for my persian kitties. These two products have always made their fur and skin so soft and silky. Currently I am using a all natural shampoo/conditioner that I bought locally that seems to be good for both of my puppies fur/skin. I just need something to help my yorkie puppy to keep these teeny tiny matts from forming or getting worse. Seems to be forming where her harness slighty rubs. So, I brush and comb these areas several times a day. I figure once her adult coat comes in, this will continue to be a concern. A leave in conditioner may be helpful with natural oils. |
