I use the conditionier before the bath and it works great. There are several products to choose from.

OP......you're dealing with puppy mats and they can be aggravating! The only product that kept Reno from being shaved down as a puppy is the PEK conditioner - it saved both Reno and I numerous hours spent combing out mats. The PEK is great for puppy mats but also the best hair conditioner for adult yorkies too! You can try other brands (like I did - I tried them ALL) but my advice - you'll save money, time and frustration by just ordering the PEK!
