| ![]() Ill be bringing my new puppy home in a few weeks, and im trying to get everything she needs before I bring her home. I just don’t know what kind of play pen is the best. ![]() Should I use a "normal" baby play pen, a metal play pen that I can attach her crate to, or the cloth type puppy play pen? ![]() Also, what are the best items to have for your new puppy? You know a "Must Have"!! Thanks for any help you can give me!! ![]() |

| ![]() i like the plastic kind- you can get them at petsmart- or a baby store- but i don't think you need one unless you are leaving her during the day- in which case i'd put her crate in the play pen with pee pads- food/water and a few toys. Otherwise- i have a play pen and have never used it.... |

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() I just brought my little guy home on friday and at this time I have him in a old pack and play. I had him in a metal crate and he hated it. He screamed and screamed, once I set up the playpen he was happier, he still whines some when I put him in it, but he hasnt screamed. lol. I have a soft sided crate that I leave the front flap velcroed up so he can go in and out to sleep, his food, and toys in there with him. I dont have a pee pad in there with him because 1) he refuses to use them ![]() ![]()

| ![]() I bought a plastic pen at Alldogfurniture.com. I absolutely love it. It is 3x3 by about 24 inches high. It has four sides that have pins that easily slide in and out to fold it up. I couldn't live without it. It is in the living room and I put a plastic table cloth under it along with dog pads to protect the hardwood floor. It is a great place to put him when I want to know exactly what he is doing and to keep him out of trouble for a while. It has a door in the front you can open and did I say "I love it"? |

| ![]() I believe it is a matter of personal preference. All the gates will do essentially the same thing; contain your dog while you are out. I believe crating is better as long as you get a comfy crate bed and give them a long walk before leaving. That is my opinion, and other people will say the pen gives more room. Currently I use a pen for the Yorkie I'm having a trial session with because I don't want to spend $65 ($50 for crate and $15 for bed) on a crate if I won't keep it. I had a pen from my rabbit. If you decide to go with the pen, I think the Precision ones coated with black look the best. Be sure to have toys, food, water, and pee pads in the exercise pen (if you leave for long times in the day). If you have the time it is probably best to crate train her for now because she probably won't be potty trained when you get her. Let's see.. must haves.. here goes! Crate or exercise pen, pee pads, toys, food, food/water bowls (stainless steel or ceramic), place mat?, a few beds, toys, harness, leash, ID tags, toys, treats, and don't forget the toys!! | ![]() When I first got my puppy, I didn't want to leave her in a crate, so I bought an Exercise Pen, put 3 potty pads in the back end of it, her bed in the middle, and her food and water on the side. I think this is a better alternative to a crate because since they are still little puppies, they may need to relieve themselves in the middle of the night. But always change potty pads daily if you decide to use them. And don't forget to praise your puppy when you catch he/she using the potty pad. Hope this helps! ![]() |

| ![]() anyone has an idea where to get a play pen with a seethrough roof? my girls could always manage to get out with the plastic type, and the metal type will probably scrach my floor. |
