I dont believe anyone said they would not defend their dog if it was attacked. Most people were disagreeing with what the woman did. I was also referring to your statement about how you would not hesitate to kill the animal if it was you. Which is you what you would do and thats fine, I was just stating my opinion.

I didnt want to upset anyone I was just very upset that some people would look at killing so lightly. As I said before "TWO WRONGS DONT MAKE A RIGHT"
"Thou shall not kill" is one of our TEN COMMANDMENTS. That was my opinion.

SoCalyorkiLvr Please dont take offense to what I had said, everyone has their opinion.

Dont get me wrong I would defend my 5 year old daughter and my two dogs in a heartbeat. I was only saying that I would not kill them. In my mind that makes me no better than them.

I would most definitly like to be posted as to how the case is going with the woman. Does any one know what the update is?

I am sure this woman thought she was doing the right thing if someone attacked one of my babies i dont know what i would do i have a very quick temper and would probably attack it...but not kill it there is a point when that little voice in your head should say STOP.

wow i dont read posts for one day and see this.

I promised myself I wouldnt get involved in a controversial thread again but oh well here goes nuthin.

first and most importantly Kristy Im so very sad to hear about your cousin my thought and prayers go out to you and your family.

Now as for the rottie... My husband raised rotts when he was younger if that rott was aggressive i truly dont think that the woman would have been able to kill it. The trainer i train my shepherd with also trains k9 patrol dogs & I gotta say i have seen what an aggressive dog can do. My 105 lb shep plays with macy( yorkie 2 1/2 lb) and sometimes he dont want to play and macy keeps going at him. Sometimes he goes down stairs to get away from her and sometimes he will bark at her loudly to scare away. I can tell you now i would never kill either dog. None of us was there when this rottie bit the yorkie, we all know yorkies tend to have big dog attitudes in lil dog bodies. Macy went after the lab across the street the other day and almost became lunch.. so we do not know that the yorkie didnt go there first. Once the yorkie was out of harms way the women should have called the proper authorities to handle the situation as to what happened and who was at fault. She should not have killed this animal in the manner that she did.

I also think as much as we love our pets and treat them as our kids(myself included) You can not use them to compare in this situation. I am catholic and know the ten commandments but as where my children are concerned i would do whtever was needed to protect them. would I kill for them I wouldnt know till put in that situation. As for my dogs they are very very very special to me but we all shouldnt forget they are animals with distinct traits. All of them have the potential to be aggressive and I think we tend to forget that.

My honest opinion is that that women was 100% wrong!!!!! You dont kill an animal in such an inhumane way. I dont care what the law says a murder is or a hero is. We are talking about being just plain cruel.

Ok so matthew and i were at the dog park when someone took their small dog into the big dog section...a rather large greyhound attacked the small dog and wouldnt let go (luckily the little dog only ended up with a couple of puncture wounds) my husband said and i quote "if a dog had my dog and wouldnt let go i would choke it to death" and keep in mind this is my husband who has literally never hit anyone in his life...extreme passivist. So it just goes to show hurt someone or something someone loves and you will never know what that person will do.

I feel badly for the dog with the puncture wounds, but your posts caused me to think:

1. Why did the person take her dog into the section where big dogs are?

2. Greyhounds who are raced and abused at tracks chase rabbits around as their 'bait". Maybe he was recently rescued (or maybe not so recently) and mistook the small dog for a bait rabbit. I don't think its that unlikely a reason.

Just trying to look at it from the side of the Greyhound's owner.

Oh i totally agree it was the small dogs owners fault i would never ever take toby to the big dog area and i thought the same thing that it probably saw it as a rabbit cause the small dog was a very hairy mix breed. Just saying more than anything my husbands reaction to the incident shocked me because i hadnt told him about this post.

This story hits so close to home for me. My 2.5 lbs Gus was attacked by a 75 lbs German Sheperd just 3 weeks ago.

My son took Gus out to do his biz. when the Sheperd charged for him from across the street. It all happened so fast. My daughter who is 8 was playing with her friends was also outside when it happened. The Sheperd grabbed Gus and was shaking him. I heard my daughter yelling for me so I run out and seen my son with a rake running after the dog. Luckly he dropped Gus and ran home. I can still hear my poor Gus crying. My daughter picked Gus off of the street and ran inside. At first glance he looked ok just a bit scared. But when we were checking him out he collapsed and was having trouble breathing and his eyes were rolling back. I lost it! My husband got him and rushed him the local emergency vet.

Waiting for that call was torture. And when it finally came I can hear it in my husbands voice that things were not good. I then went across the street to tell the owner what had happened. And that dog was sitting right in front of the door and was not about to let me approach. So I went home and called the police. But you can best believe I had my bebe gun ready just incase he came back to my yeard. I'm so glad it didn't come to that. Animal Control came and took a report. They then went to the owners house and told them what had happened. They would not surrender the dog so they fined them. Told them they were liable for any expences. (which they did pay) And if they had to come out again they were going to take the dog. And you can best believe I will call if I see that dog out loose again!

They really didnt think Gus was going to pull through. His chest was full of fluid and his left lung was collapsed. And he did have quite a few of puncture wounds. They worked thier magic and he servived the night without having to operate. 24 hours later they took out the oxygen tube and he was breathing on his own. The next day they took him out of ICU, by that night they took the tupe out of his chest that was draining the fluid. And was home 2 days after that. I am so grateful and thank my luck stars that he made it!!!

He came home a bit battered and bruised but his is pretty much back to his oldself. Looking like a 2 lbs lion because the had to shave his beautiful long hair. I don't care just as long as his ok. His hair will grow back.

Latuya: That is such a relief that Gus is okay. Things like this can happen so fast it's quite scary. Gus is a little survivor, what a scary episode. Is he back to "normal" now? Welcome to YorkieTalk, by the way!

Isn't it sad at the end of the day it's the attacking dog that may lose it's life when it's the people who own it that should never allow their animal to be in a position to attack ? When we call anyone about out of control dogs we put that dogs life at risk and it isn't the dogs fault ! I wonder if it would make people concentrate on contoling their dog if it was their life on the line not the dog's ?

Very glad to hear your dog was OK Latuya.

Yes Gus is back. Running, Playing, and eatting well. We went the other day to get his stiches removed and most of the bruising has pretty much all faded away. And thanks. I just found out about this site and I love it!!!
