This story hits so close to home for me. My 2.5 lbs Gus was attacked by a 75 lbs German Sheperd just 3 weeks ago.
My son took Gus out to do his biz. when the Sheperd charged for him from across the street. It all happened so fast. My daughter who is 8 was playing with her friends was also outside when it happened. The Sheperd grabbed Gus and was shaking him. I heard my daughter yelling for me so I run out and seen my son with a rake running after the dog. Luckly he dropped Gus and ran home. I can still hear my poor Gus crying. My daughter picked Gus off of the street and ran inside. At first glance he looked ok just a bit scared. But when we were checking him out he collapsed and was having trouble breathing and his eyes were rolling back. I lost it! My husband got him and rushed him the local emergency vet.
Waiting for that call was torture. And when it finally came I can hear it in my husbands voice that things were not good. I then went across the street to tell the owner what had happened. And that dog was sitting right in front of the door and was not about to let me approach. So I went home and called the police. But you can best believe I had my bebe gun ready just incase he came back to my yeard. I'm so glad it didn't come to that. Animal Control came and took a report. They then went to the owners house and told them what had happened. They would not surrender the dog so they fined them. Told them they were liable for any expences. (which they did pay) And if they had to come out again they were going to take the dog. And you can best believe I will call if I see that dog out loose again!
They really didnt think Gus was going to pull through. His chest was full of fluid and his left lung was collapsed. And he did have quite a few of puncture wounds. They worked thier magic and he servived the night without having to operate. 24 hours later they took out the oxygen tube and he was breathing on his own. The next day they took him out of ICU, by that night they took the tupe out of his chest that was draining the fluid. And was home 2 days after that. I am so grateful and thank my luck stars that he made it!!!
He came home a bit battered and bruised but his is pretty much back to his oldself. Looking like a 2 lbs lion because the had to shave his beautiful long hair. I don't care just as long as his ok. His hair will grow back. |
