You really don't need to worry about the organ meat, I simply feed a small amount of liver or kidney once a week. I reckon if you just took the plunge, Morgan would get the hang of it

I think the positive points of raw diet far out weigh the false sense of security people get by using processed kibble. I've heard a lot of people/clients going on about "germs!" and "salmonella!!!" but a dog's digestive system is tailored to handle raw meat because (as someone already said) that's what they ate for thousands of years before kibble was very recently invented.

I have a question though! How exactly do you feed raw meaty bones? I went out today and bought a pack of 2" Primal beef bones and my babies went absolutely NUTS over them. (Earlier I was playing w/ Raja and noticed how ick his teeth are starting to look so it was definitely time for some RMB's.) I sat on the kitchen floor holding the bones for them because I didn't want them to touch the floor. Then I decided to go out on the front porch (concrete) so I didn't have the hold the bones but they got all dirty & ick from being chewed on the porch.

Well beef rib bones are not the best idea, they are generally seen as being recreactional as they are very hard and only the strongest and most experinced raw fed dogs would manage to actually consume them. You'd be better off going for softer ones such as a chicken, lamb or turkey rmb which they could chew on and then actually eat.

I either hand feed the rmb's or I let them eat them on a floor that can be washed afterwards, such as the kitchen floor. You could also let them eat them on a towel which could be washed afterwards

Yep.

. And, just throwing this in - as far as people getting salmonella from a RAW fed dog: I am on a RAWfeeding list, with over 9,000 members from all over the world, and all walks of life. I have yet to hear of even one case where someone contracted salmonella from their pet. Personal research: Abigail delights in sneaking kisses on my mouth right after she has eaten , and I've never gotten sick.

As lara just pointed out, the beef bones are too dense (especially for small teeth), and not recommended. I feed on towels in the kitchen. The towels can be laundered and the kitchen floor washed, after. Towels also seem to help them hold the RMBs in place. I think most people envision raw meat and rmbs all over the floor; but, I haven't found that to be the case, with mine. Mozart learned early on that the towel was the place to eat, and Abigail seems to have taken his lead. RAW feeding is, admittedly, a bit messier than throwing dry kibble in a dainty little bowl. No one claimed it would be neat

. But, we do what's best for our pets - NOT what's most convenient/pleasing to us - right?

Here hows you prevent getting salmonella from your dogs raw diet, don't eat their poop, don't pick up their poop with your bare hands and then suck on your fingers

I actually fell ill from salmonella poisoning a few years ago, before I started raw feeding my dogs. Turns out I got it from a chicken sandwich bought from a store.

We're starting slow - I picked up the beef bones because I knew they couldn't actually eat them, just gnaw off some meat and lick out the marrow. I have to work my way up to the soft bones... I know they'll be fine as long as I supervise the chewing - and I will be watching like a hawk - but I'm an overprotective mom I guess and taking baby steps.

What do your furkids think of chicken feet? I'm thinking of trying those next...

A few years ago, i was shopping in pet store and saw chicken feet, i bought 2 of them. I work in a hospital and my department was full of practical jokers. We painted the nails red, and would slip them into each others lab coat pockets. You would be at work, busy, reach into your pocket for a pen, and pull out a chicken foot with red nails. This was one of our little ways to break out in laughter during stress filled days. This went on for years... We were a bunch of goofballs.

so I guess they weren't real chicken feet otherwise they'd get rancid and rotten
