............you can go onto www.rawmeatybones.com and see the different places you can order but I'm sure you could even order it from your local B&N if you go there a lot and want to bypass the S/H...........all my seven babies are guinea pigs and I know I shouldn't call them that because the only thing they are on is the raw diet but I really just say that somewhat affectionately and I just keep in mind this way of feeding is not just "all about us"....all but two have done pet therapy visits and I've always believed they are gifts from God to add to others lives.... even when we are out on errands I know they uplift lots of people in the middle of their hectic days....(I'm totally opposed to animal testing and always ck any products I buy for that but I'm sure eveyone on YT feels the same so that goes without saying)...this diet is something that I know in my heart is right and all I can say is when you are feeding and caring for your kids the best way you know how you have such a peace of mind....it may be time consuming at first til you get used to it but once you have a routine down it is so easy....when I just had millee and the 4 cats I had to go away for a month and was able to bag and prepare raw food for them ....the owner of the pet sitting business came in and fed them, brought her kids to play w them, cleaned the litter, etc....she said everyone she told about the raw diet said "yuch" and she told them "yea, but it was easy to do and with four cats you never even smelled the litter.......as far as "being scared"....just keep an open mind and do the research yourself....try a chicken neck which has teeny tiny bones and see how your baby handles that.........it's like anything tho if you believe in something you'll find a way to do it.....re: the pit bull I have a girlfriend w boxers who get lots of allergies too....a hairdresser I used to go to had a mastif that got cancer at 2 yrs old ...I searched the net frantically trying to find a vet who would talk w her over the phone about some alternatives.....I did find one who told me where there is life there is hope .....he said to tell her to immediately start feeding the dog raw meat....he said carbohydrates in kibble is what the cancer feeds on .....but in the meantime she had put the dog down because the vets said surgery would be $5000 and it was no guarantee...the dog was so bad at that point and she didn't want her to go through any more pain....as far as how expensive to feed raw that will depend on how you will do it and how many kids you have ....i have 7 and to me it is very cost effective I usually buy in bulk at the butcher.......but I also buy from the supermarket and sometimes while I stand in line and look at their ch wings and legs then look at my food ...veggies and a can of tuna fish!.....I think to myself ....hmmmm, something's wrong w this picture!........but if you add up all my pet food bills and vet bills for the last 9 years and take someone else's pet's food and vet bills for nine years you would probably see thousands of dollars of savings....

Thumbs up Just wanted to share my story w. older dog and RAW

I recently had a similar experience at the vet with my Yorkie "Toy". He needed to be seen for an abscess caused by my puppy's play nipping at his tail. This was a new vet and he could not believe my dog will be 13 years old in March. He said he's never seen a dog his age with teeth in such good shape! He was just so surprised to not have a dying dog to treat as vets apparently expect to see with dogs that age! He was curious as to what I was doing with him. I told him I feed raw meaty bones, plain raw meat, raw organs, fish oil and Nature's Variety Raw patties when in a time pinch. I was pleasantly surprised to hear him say "Good Job"! Since Toy gets raw, he has not vomited once. The bad breath disappeared. His teeth are white again. No more dental cleanings! I decided to feed raw as I was at wits end. I researched and was quickly convinced as it makes sense. People all over the world report healthy dogs due to raw. I had to try it because my baby couldn't get any worse than he already was! He had allergies to just about anything. Overweight and overall poor health. His kibble was killing him. All he did was sleep all day and lick/scratch himself! Switching to all kinds of high quality brands and then eventually home cooking his food still did nothing for him. Many times, dogs that are allergic to something, will not be allergic to it when it's given in raw form instead. Ill pets have made turn arounds with raw diets. I know people who's dogs have diabetes, IBS, liver shunts, you name it. They all love and tolerate raw better than anything they've ever eaten! The raw form of higher protein and other much needed nutrients seems to be the key for sick pets. I'd just wish I knew about raw years ago! I will never feed anything else again! My senior Yorkie has lost 2 pounds since on raw. He was never over fed on kibble or gotten many treats, but was still fat! At first it was weird and a bit icky but now I won't even blink when cutting up a beef heart. I watch them chew their bones on their towels, I wipe their feet and face down with some vinegar and warm water soaked wipes afterward, done. I truly believe that feeding raw and not vaccinating anymore has saved my best friend! Raw for life for us!

I hope you're right. Thanks for trying to ecucate me!
Personally I think dogs fed on commercial foods are being used as guinea pigs, not raw fed dogs. After all dogs have been eating raw perfectly safely for thousands and thousands of years but dog food was only invented in the 1950's! Thats not even a whole lifetime! Every time somebody buys a new bag of kibble or tray of wet food they are using their dog as a guinea pig to test if that batch is safe, look at the pet food recalls! JMO.

Then you should be quoting the raw-dog-food advocate who started this thread. She's the one who called her dogs guinea pigs for feeding them a raw diet.

But since you attacked me, here's my .02:
I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you over feeding dogs raw meat loaded with salmonella that can kill them and humans who come in contact with the food or feces. And I'm not going to debate how many dogs choke to death from swallowing bones or have their stomachs punctured by eating ground up bones.

I, like you, am ignorant over the science involved. I just have a real problem with people who zealously recommend a diet that has no scientific backing without pointing out the risks.

The Centers for Disease Control ("Raw diets, especially raw meat diets, are not recommended because of the risk for salmonellosis and other infections that can affect pets and their owners"), The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ("the ASPCA does not recommend the raw food diet at this time. Current scientific research supports the idea of feeding well-balanced, high-quality commercial foods to our animals") and other established authorities do not recommend a raw diet.

alaskayorkie, I did not attack you I simply stated that IMO dogs fed a commercial diet are more like guinea pigs than raw fed dogs, doesn't mean you have to agree with me.

I also do not think I am at all ignorant about the science involved, far from it in fact.

I could right now go on and on and quote vets and nutritionsists discrediting what you have just said but i'm not going to as clearly the fact that I tried to challenge something that you said really p*ssed you off.

Chill out, i'm not trying to start an argument with you. I have just as much right to promote raw feeding on here as anybody else has the right to promote home cooking or particular brands of commercial food.

Life would be boring if we all had the same opinions.

.......Lara ....good point regarding who the real guinea pigs are..........Alaska....sorry if you are offended but Lara has been very helpful to me w her keen knowledge on the raw diet....I am learning more every day....you are right about the research I believe that is key and the more experiences and results we can share w each other the better it will be for all our precious furr babies....so please, if you have any stories you can share on results of ANY diet please do so....I see tragedy w pets on a daily basis and whatever I can pass on to them I will........I do value the opinions of the authorities but I also believe we have to work WITH them not just do what they tell us.......personally I was diagnosed w skin cancer a few yrs ago....after the second surgery the skin doctor (who I consider an authority) was going to chop me up again til a friend told me about a healthy veggie diet (mostly carrots)......I halted the surgery got on the diet and the lesion on my leg disappeared.......I believe it is the same w our animals.....it's all about getting the immune system right and their bodies will heal themselves.......it's obvious you adore and care for those two little cuties you have so I think we're all here for the same reason........and by the way, TOY'S MOM.........that is a great story, you made my day ....nice to get teary eyed over something good for a change!! ( you also hit another nerve in me regarding vaccinations but I'm not going to go there right now!!)........have an awesome wknd!

How funny

i am so happy that Lara is on YT and now you too 7TimesBlessed. Its great to see people here that feed prey-model raw and are so knowledgeable about it. I learn from you guys every time you post and i thank you for it. I feed mostly pre-made raw but i'm trying to get into prey-model. Morgan's not much of a chewer most of the time so its hard to get her into the ripping and tearing of the meat off the bones. She LOVES her raw diet tho and i see great improvement in her LPs since she's been on the diet. her knee doesn't pop as much. she also has pearly white teeth

SORRY SORRY!!! LOL i honestly had no idea you fed raw until i saw you post on another thread about it recently.

i would love more advice from prey-model feeders so that i can start doing it too. i'm just so worried that i'll miss giving something that is essential and morgan won't get everything she needs. its the organs that worry me most. i've only fed chicken drumsticks to morgan and a turkey neck. she doesn't really get into the drumsticks and can't tear the meat off it. the neck she had a little more fun with.

hehehe...Hey, Lara, got some cheeeese to go with my w(h)ine? Well, I guess I have been absent quite a bit, lately. True, I don't post on every feeding thread - didn't want to appear cramming it down peoples' throats. You know...didn't want them to choke on RAW . I was a bit busy the past few months having open heart surgery. Hadda recover from that, and couldn't even sit here at the pc very long. But, I knew you were taking care of things! I'm glad you're here, too!

ROFLOL ! <groan!> Well, y'know...like the song says: "Oh, Lord, it's hard to be humble - when yer perfect in every way!" Or, one of my fav quotes: "People who think they know it all are particularly annoying to those of use that do".
