| I must really love my dogs... to cook them LIVER! Ew, gross, blah, pluhhhh, and YUCK! I keep mostly vegetarian, but I decided to try cooking some liver for my dogs. OMG, I gagged several times during the process! After taking it out of the container, there was NO WAY I could give it to them raw, so I used it in a dog food recipe. Anyone else cook liver for their dogs? Do you know of any way to make it look and feel less icky? And the smell when cooking it-is there any way to avoid that?

| I give it to mine raw, they love it but remember only to give it in small quantities otherwise they might get loose poops. |

| I'm sorry but I can picture you cooking it. No it always smells that bad. My mom use to put onions on it supposedly to kill the smell, but it only smelled worse, and heck no I didn't eat it.

| I don't give mine liver because it's an organ that filtered all the toxins. After reading the second book by Ann N. Martin, Protect Your Pet. More Shocking Facts, there would be no way I'd ever let them eat liver or even anything that contains liver. Plus, I always said I'd never feed my dogs anything that I wouldn't eat, and liver is one of them |

| Suzy, are you crazy? lol.... How could you stand it? You ARE a better mommy than me too, cuz there is NO WAY that I could take that smell! I remember it from when I was a kid...my brother loves liver. I mean he really likes it; could eat it like french fries! lol... So my mother used to cook it for him a lot when we were kids. I still remember the smell to this day. NO WAY could I do it. As for the smell going away, I don't think it could happen. Sorry I'm not of much help here. But just wanted to acknowledge you for how much you are willing to do for your special girls!! Hugs and kisses to Milli!! And Emma too! How's the corn? lol!!!

Dogs are dogs, I know we all think of our yorkies as our babies but at the end of the day they are dogs and because of that we should feed them a species appropriate diet. They are descended from wolves, wolves live on a diet of raw meat, bones and other things they can find such as raw eggs. Therefore this is their species appropriate diet. At the end of the day we all do what we believe is best for our furbabies. After trying lots of different dog foods, including many that are recommended on here and trying them on a home cooked diet I decided to try the raw food diet. I read books, spoke to people who have been feeding it for many years and searched the internet for information. Then I took the plunge and I can honestly say that they have never been healthier and happier than they are on this diet. A few months later and I am certain that feeding my dogs their species appropriate diet is the best thing I have ever done for them. Feed what you are comfortable with and what you believe to be the best for your babies but please not do criticize others for doing the same. | |

| Domestic dogs and animals in the wild have different nutritional needs. I give them bone meal powder, along with a few more things that I mix up and keep refridgerated. They also get beef femur and knuckle bones to chew on. |

I use to use boiled liver then roasted with garlic power for bait, but it did cause diarreah in some. So, I switched to boiled bonless, skinless chicken breast.

| I must really love my dogs All of this information is so much appreciated from you guys. Since I am an empty nester and only have my baby, think I will try cooking for her because she hates dog food. How about roast beef and boiled eggs?

| I must really love my dogs I am so confused now, I gave Tricksie just a tiny bit of roast beef cut in little pieces, steamed one flowerette of brocolli with a teaspon of shredded carrots. She tried to vomit this morning but it was just a little foam, gave her regular dog food this morning, she ate just a little and has been laying around all day, "Not like her"! There was an article in WWW.Parade.Com today written by Karen Halligan, Veterinarian, about cooking for your pet. She says never give them cheese, dough, fat, garlic, ham, liver, milk, cheese, mushrooms, onions, raisins or tuna. I found it very interesting.
