Cosita just got Spayed... Hello guys, Yesterday Cosita got spayed. I wanted to write an update on how she did. After we brought her back from the Vet, she was very drowsy, and slept most of the time. When we picked her up, we immediately wrapped her up in a warm blanket since she was shivering. They removed 8 teeth, and Vet said her skin (on her belly) has slightly rash and gave me some oils drops to put on her food. She just had a sip of water about 10 pm and went potty outside. I could hear my poor girl moaning more than three times during the night. I put her bed between hubby and I so she would sleep with us. I used her bed as well so neither of us would roll over and asphyxiate her (you never know). I could barely sleep making sure she was alright. I wish I could just fix her pain. About her stinky breath the Vet told me it was due to her seriously teething. She has probably blood but no infection. The good news is that a couple of days prior, my mother in law had told me about buying "Chlorophyll" (liquid) and squeeze three drops of it in her water. It would take about 24 hours before I'd start noticing the difference on her breath. Chlorophyll is good for bath breath, digesting food, and many other things. I swear, her bad breath was so much better the next day. Also bought something called "greenish", they also have chlorophyll as one of the ingredients. She loves that as a treat. Today, Cosita seems better. She tried already playing with her toys and ate like a horse as soon as he got up, but she is still walking hunchy. She tried jumping on the couch but couldn't even jump half way of what she normally does (anyway, I stopped it before she would try the second time). She has been trying to lick her incision whenever she gets a chance. Tried putting the Elizabeth collar but she got very apprehensive, so I put one of her sweaters and that seemed to have stopped it for now. I hope by the end of the day she becomes more like herself. She is sleeping right now. Anyone with experience after spaying? Are Cosita's normal symptoms? I have uploaded some pictures. Last edited by Raiza; 11-30-2004 at 05:25 PM.

Poor Cosita... I can only remember Mojo's little face after getting neutered, it broke my heart i felt so bad on the first day....but the good news are, these little guys heal fast, even though they are small, they are a strong dog. Just out of curiosity...do you know what the drops you put in the food is? Keep us posted on how she is doing...

Spaying or neutering can affect them for a few days, but they should just pop up back to normal after that. And yes, they love to lick their incisions, it should be okay as long as they don't rupture it or anything. Just let Cosita rest as she needs it, especially with teeth getting pulled as well!

Hi guys, thanks. Ah the Vet gave Cosita "Derm Caps Liquid", regular strength for small and medium breeds (DVM). He recommended to give her 1/4 dropper full by mouth or on food once daily. I got also Greenies, LIL' BITS. Treats for bad breath. Chlorophyll Liquid 100 mg, 3 drops only in her water. She is so much better now. She is back following us around and stuff. I missed my old Cosita. She says hi to all of you and thanks for your warm thoughts! Last edited by Raiza; 11-30-2004 at 05:21 PM.

Hello Raiza...i was very happyto hear that Cosita is doing better It really affect us when they are not 100%...just keep in mind that she will be back to normal in no time. Ohh, about the derm caps, it is a omega 3 & 6 supplement, it works wonders on the coat and skin, helping on the healing process. Every once in a while you can offer her some, it takes about 30 days to see any differente but it is worth it, i gave it to Mojo for about 2 months and loved it!

Thanks fasteddie, but in fact I think I'm more concerned about Cosita being up to fashion than myself. LOL Babbie, yes, isn't that heart braking to see their little sad faces when leaving the vet? But yea, "She is back".

| Babbie, Cosita is very picky with the Omega Oil, How do you tease your doggie to take it? one full drop seems too much to hide it in peanut butter... or you just make him swallow it? -r Quote:

Lexi is being spayed on Dec. 14th. I'm so worried about her. Having had a couple of surgeries myself I know how painful the recovery can be. Hearing your experience made me a little less apprehensive in that I have a little window into what to expect. We had a pre-operation vet's visit and I told him that I was so worried about her following the operation because she get's crazy when we come in and out of the house. She goes nuts jumping and jumping and jumping and jumping (well you get the idea). And then when my daughter gets home from college on weekends she goes absolutely nuts. He said she'd have a morphine patch to help with pain control and that would keep her a bit quieter. Hope so. So glad to hear your pup is doing better - spaying is the best choice for them - for longevity of life...that's what we're after.

Raiza...i bought lipiderm caps for Mojo, and he doesn;t liek too much either...but i just put in his mouth and force him to swallow. Maybe what you should do is just mix with a little bit of food before giving her the complete serving.

YorkiesRule: We so much understand your concern. The first day of the surgery Lexis will sleep most of the time and may not even eat. Cosita only had a zip of water at 10pm and that was it. But next day she ate like a horse as soon as she got up. She was still in the sleeping mode most of the day, but she felt up to playing when she could. About the evening of that second day, I could say she was almost back to normal. Lexis would start jumping and play tag, but you need to tell him "no, no, need to take it easy for few days". Of course he does not know what that means, so you just try to settle him down. You can expect: First day he would look lifeless :-(Look for: Swelling and Redness. Babbie, This morning I just said, "Cosita wanna a good treat? open your mouth", and I put the dropper and squeezed it really fast and in not time she had swallowed it LOL... She was looking at me like: "What that h*** did just happen?!!!" LOL Then I gave her the yiammi liver treats. I will try tomorrow and see is it works again. Thanks guys for all your input. You and Yorkies Rock!!! -r

| Raiza, that's pretty much the same way Toto's surgery went. I just held her and she slept for about two days. She didn't have much of an appetite either but I made sure that she at least drank water and had her NutriCal. The biggest thing our vet cautioned us of was not allowing her to jump up and making sure her incision was OK until the stitches were removed in ten days! I must say, she survived the ordeal much better than I did!!!

Hi Bettyeanne, yes, she sure did. I barely could sleep thinking if she was indeed al right. BTW, She had her surgery on Monday... just 5 days ago. I think I am letting her jump and run too much. I need to pay more attention on this... This is a good thread, now people that are looking to spaying or nudering (sp?) soon, now they now what to expect. In 14 days I will post what Vet said about her incision and how unstitching went. -r

How much did the spay or neuter cost? (just curious) i know you can get reduced cost by going through a "care" vetrinarian or clinic
