feed them Deli Fresh from Pet Smart. The only draw back is the size of the kibble, I find I have to half it for mine. I wrote them and they just told me that my baby's have teeth that will take care of that. That is not the problem it is to big for their mouth. I have not changed because it took for ever to find one that they like and is good for them. So I guess I will keep breaking it in half!!!! Hugs Mary |

I was wondering if you know anything about flint river ranch dog food?? I switched awhile ago from Orijen to this because they had good reviews. I was just wondering. It is a small private company...any suggestions will help because this is what I am currently feeding my babies and they love it! |
Dr. B's post on F/B today Hi all, Just thought I would share Dr. Karen Becker's post today on Facebook! I liked it a lot!! Karen Becker "is going to be blunt: No Science Diet, no Iams, no Eukanuba, no Purina....don't do it people...educate yourselves enough to "just say NO." Right to your uneducated vet's face." Now this is the kind of Vet I like!!!! |
Thanks for sharing Quote:

Thanks for posting! I switched my Nalu from Royal Canin puppy food to the Wellness puppy formula due to yor post. |
My puupy eats Primal Beef and Artemis small breed puppy. |
My dog is on Orijen senior as she's 10. I think it's an excellent food, and I recommend it! :D |
Hi, Thank you for posting this information. By any chance have you or anyone else had a positive or negative experience with Royal Canin, Blue Buffalo or Orijen? My wife and I have been giving our little guy Science Diet and he doesn't seem to want to touch the stuff any more. Our vet told us that he's about 2 pounds under weight and for his size that's a significant amount to be under... There are so many choices and frankly I don't place a lot of faith in the guidance I get from the teenagers working at pet smart over the weekends... Thanks again for your post as well as any feedback anyone is willing to share. J. |
In my opinion, the Hill's Science diet is a low quality food with a high price! Hope your dog puts weight on soon, it must be so scary for you! Try one of the 6 star foods that have been mentioned above. |
Thank you so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it. J. |
Per Dr. Becker "Today's dry food tip of the day: flip over your pet food bag. Read the ingredient list. See rice, corn, wheat, oatmeal, millet or soy on the label? Throw it out and start over." Dr. Becker |
Okay...So based on the recommendations above I went out and picked up Wellness Core. The folks at the pet store mentioned that it's probably one of the best foods they've ever carried at Petco. I also bought a can of Halo chicken stew (which frankly, looked and smelled just like regular chicken stew. Okay...I'll admit it I was tempted to try it :0)~) and Wellness Core Chicken & Turkey canned food. But of course, Charlie won't touch any of it. Belles our Chihuahua devoured the Halo Chicken Stew and turned her nose up to both Wellness products. Presently he's only eating a product from a company called Deli Fresh Pet (Deli Fresh - Natural Dog Food). It's refrigerated and looks just like salami. It seems to be okay from a nutritional stand point but no where near the caliber of any of the 6 star foods mentioned above. He was eating Science Diet but as I mentioned earlier he doesn't seem to like it any more. This product is obviously considered soft food and is not AAFCO approved so I don't want to continue to give him this for a long period of time. I know Yorkies are picky eaters but our little man is going to drive us to drink! Any feed back out there on which 6 star dry food is a home run and tastes great to picky eaters? Thanks in advance for your responses and guidance. J. |

Great! I'm going to switch from Yorkshire Terrier 28 by Royal Canin to Artemis Small Breed and see what happens, thanks for the information! |
Try Orijen! It's a fantastic food, my dog loves it! |
My vet recomends Royal Canin. What is everyones take on this brand. My pug eats Innova. Also Mia is a little over 5 lbs at 4 months, should I feed her what it says on the bag? My vet says that is too much. RIght now I am giving her 1/4 cup 3 times a day. Thanks |
I think Innova is a better quality food than Royal. However, I prefer Evo which is made by the same people who make the Innova. My puppy is 5 months old and eats Evo adn Artemis small breed dry to free feed all day whenever she wants it and I give her daily requirement of Primal's raw complete beef. As for your other dog, I would go by the food recommendations unless your puppy has a weight problem. What is the reason your vet says you are feeding too much? Seems to me puppies need to eat to grow and thrive. |
I contacted Canidae for free samples and they sent it with NO QUESTIONS ASKED!! Amazing!! I am anticipating for my samples now because my picky furbutts are just...SPOILED. |
Puppy food I have been researching foods for puppies. I have read not to feed foods that contain Meat Meals. Almost every food out there, even the Top Rated have meals. They only one that I have found that don't contain meals is Halo. Is anyone familar with this food? It is not on any list of that I have seen. |

I feel its the BEST and have used it for both my puppies and adults for 2 years now. it has helped with tears stains, poops, skin and coat....the bonus is the LOVE it and its good for them. No fillers, by products or bad preservitives. Its made fresh and shipped to my door! There is a link for samples on the link I sent. If there are problems getting samples PM me :) |
I may have overlooked it, but I didn't see Taste of the Wild listed. They will send free samples. So just in case it wasn't listed, go here: Taste of the Wild : Contact Us and from the drop down menu, click on "Which formula is right for my pet?" . I've been using it for the past couple of years and my guys (all Neos and now Lily) love it and are completely healthy. |
I just received 15 3oz pouches of food from Artemis and got a phone call from Solid Gold to purchase a bag and they would reimburse me. NICE! Can't wait to see what my babies think:) |
Thanks Hi Everyone: I wanted to say thank you very much for posting this thread as it has been a big help in finding a new dry food for my 3 month old male Yorkie named "Chance". It seemed as if the only food he wanted to eat was Wellness Just for Puppy 3 times a day (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner). The problem was when my fiance and I would go to sleep we wanted to leave him some food at night in case he got hungry. He turned his nose up to Orijen Puppy, Wellness Just for Puppy Super 5 Mix & Royal Canin 29. After purchasing big bags only to find he wouldn't eat a single piece I emailed Artemis for a sample. With that being said I heard back from Nima Chong their director of distribution and she sent over 14 3 oz bags of Artemis Fresh Mix for small breed puppies. "Chance" sure does have good taste as he loves it!!! (at least for now :). I'm thinking about giving mixing the Artemis Dry food with the Wellness Wet food for 1 on of his meals. Maybe give him Wet/Dry Mix for Breakfast. Dry for lunch, Wet for Dinner. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Cliff |
Great info, thanks! We are always looking for good food & treaties for KC Adogus! |
