| Suggestions for ear cleaning Ferdinand's ears are stinky, and the vet told me I needed to clean them as it may be yeast. I bought some doggy ear cleaner. I have to laugh at the instructions "Simply fill the ear canal....." LOL, simply huh? I think not. My bf was holding him and I was trying to "simply fill the ear canal," but he was growling, snarling, and moving his head all over the place. I was afraid he would either bite me, or the cleaner would get in his eyes - so we gave up. It was impossible. Any suggestions for calming him down enough to clean his ears? The only idea I had was do it while he's sleeping, but I would feel bad for him waking up to his ear filled with fluid. Then I'd have to wait for him to go back to sleep to do the other. Thanks for the help!

| What about giving him a treat that he really likes while you put the cleaner in his ears. Thats what we did with chachi when he had an ear iinfection. Good luck

| Its really not easy dripping ear cleaning liquid in to their ears. Siu Pao will fight me till the end too. What you can try is ask your bf to hold him when he is very tired so that he won't fight as much or do it when he is sleeping. You have to be really quick and usually you can only do one ear at a time. So you'd have to wait for another chance for the other ear. The other method I use is corner him to a small corner where there is no where that he can run, press him down and hold one of his ear and quickly drip some in and massage his ears. Then I will usually take a clean damp towel and wipe it off if it touches the fur on his face. I find that he make less of a fuss if I wipe it off but he still doesn't like it and will fight me given the chance.

| Lucy would not let me get that bottle near her either. It was a huge fight. So I went to the pharmacy and got a childrens dropper used for medicine. I fill the dropper with the ear cleaner and put it in her ears. That is OK with her for some reason. |

| I don't know if it's easier, but is cheap. My vet suggested me to use a cotton swab with alcohol and you put it in the external ear and you turn it like id you were cleaning your ears. You could ask some help from a friend to maintain your baby steady while you are cleaning the ears. I usually give to my babies some candy, so they don't notice what i'm doing. I do it once a week, and the problems are history... All the luck to you and Ferdinand. |

| We had a similar problem with Punkin. She had a yeast infection in her ears and we needed to put drops in her ears nightly and clean them with cotton. The first time she was perfect, second time she figured out what was going to happen and struggled. We kept calm and wouldn't let her back down from getting it done (although it took 2 of us). Immediately afterward we jumped around, singing her praises and had a treat parade and played ball for a few minutes. Each day she tolerated the procedure even better and now she's perfect for it. She knows there is fun and a treat for her. I certainly didn't blame her for not wanting it - the feeling of those cold drops going down the ears could not have been pleasant.
