| Question about Nervousness. My yorkie is about 6 months old. we got him when he was 3 months old and since day one he has been driving in a car. the first few weeks he would sit with the passenger and then we moved to a carrier. but he always shook soooo bad. i thought hed just get used to driving in a car, but about a month ago he started shaking so bad in his carrier i had to take him out. so now he just drives in the car with me and sits in my lap (i know, not safe at all). But he does so good because he just sits there, but he still skakes soo bad. im wondering if this is just how the yorkie breed is and their really nervous dogs, or maybe after a long period of time he will actually grow to be calm in a car. anyone either have the same situation or have any tips?! |

| My boy is 5 months and he shakes like a leaf. He will be fine for the first 15 mins........then puke. He has very bad motion sickness. I don't feed him before the car ride (usually a small ride to vet/petstore) and he will still puke saliva and salivate non-stop. I didn't want to put him on the meclizine because it makes him so drowsy, but if push comes to shove I have it. Could your baby have motion sickness? Some don't necessarily puke but they start shaking and salivating at the mouth. Poor babies..........their stomachs must feel awful.

Wesley was exactly like this. When we got Maddie we knew that holding two dogs would be impossible so we bought the Lookout II for both of them. The seat makes Wes so much more comfortable. I think he feels more secure in it and he loves to look out the window. | |

| One of mine takes 10 hour trips to Tx with me since 03. First trip, he whined till we got to the MS state line, then got quiet. Must have known after that, was going to be a looong ride. He does great riding. I haven't been since I got my 6 month old one. But she's been to the vet in the car, and to my sisters. I will probably take both next Tx trip. Both have thier own car seats. I started my older one out putting his bed in the front seat. He'd stay in his bed. He loves his car seat though cause he can look out the window! Neither of mine have ever shook when we go for rides. But they have whined. After they get used to riding, they quit the whining, and enjoy a good ride. |

| My dogs both ride in "Lookout carseats." I think my Yorkie shook a little when he was a pup - for his first few rides, but he has gotten over this. I put both my dogs in the backseat in their carseats. They'll look out the window for a while and then lie down and take a nap. They are both great when we go for longer rides - two hours or so. And - they both "love to ride in the car." ******* Have to mention that both of these dogs got carsick prior to their getting their carseats - where they are up higher and can look out the windows now. | Kasey used to ride along with no problem. She's just turned one, and in the last few months she's become extremely nervous in the car -- only on the highway, or when we're going relatively fast. She pants and pants.... I tried putting her in her crate and strapping it in, high enough so she could look around. Same problem. (Makes me think a Lookout won't work for her.) Held her-- same problem. So eventually I put her in her sherpa bag on the floor, believing that maybe she feels a little safer there and will sleep. Of course I can't get a good view of her when she's in the bag, but at least I feel better... (: I always feel so upset when I see her panting like that! Good luck, and let me know if you discover anything that works, folks! (: Kim

| I have the same problems with Buddy. He is 11 months old and from day one gets very agitated in the car. We go for "rides" several times a week and he never seems to get any better about it. Shakes, pants, yawns, Just cannot relax. I bought Rescue Remedy last week on the recommendation from this board, and had high hopes!! Nothing changed. It didn't seem to calm him even a bit. I will be asking the vet for some kind of medicine the next time we go. I travel quite a bit and he needs to go with me as I am often gone for hours and hours at a time. I feel so sorry for him. He isn't a nervous dog otherwise, and loves to go to the places I have to go to, but the car rides in between just freak him out. So, I too would like to find a solution to this problem. |

| I have two different car riders. Gin (9#) thinks that if I go in the car, she has to go in the car. She absolutely adores sticking her head out the window and having her hair blown back (I do hold her securely). Andy (4.5#)would rather curl up in the passenger seat (buckled in). Gin has gotten smart enough that she knows which button to push to make the window go down.

| Millie has been trained to be on car rides since the day we got her at 12 wks. She would get car sick and she did shake like a leaf alot of the times. We have always had a car seat and it never seemed to make a difference. (She does perfer to be in my lap, but I don't always let her get her way). She never does enjoy going on car rides. It took her almost up to a year old before she would be "ok" in the car. Because I really insisted that we get thru this hump, because I wanted to take her every where with me and I never gave in or up. So she will tolerate the rides now, because she gets to be with us all day and she gets to go to fun places. She eventually stopped the shaking and stopped throwing up, but it took forever for her to be fine in the car.

| I completely understand what your going through. My one girl is a complete wreck. Her little tougue comes out and she pants immediately. She's does this during the entire trip. Could be 5 min or 3 hrs. I hold her while my fiance drives and I do everything to make her comfortable but nothing works. I don't look foward to the trip home (3 hrs ) for Christmas. She makes me a nervous wreck. If anyone knows anything that is safe for them to take please let me know. Thanks !! Good Luck to everyone else that deals with this
