| Not sure of what is technically supposed to be done.... but when we have a dog that comes in with it here we find the antifungal sprays you can get for dogs and cats work pretty good and just ALWAYS are washing our hands. I believe it just has to run it's course. The first time we got it here with a dog the vet gave some stuff that didn't work so well so that's why we found the fungal spray ourselves ... which worked better. We actually haven't had a case hear in a few years so maybe some new stuff that works better has come out????????

| I haven't dealt with it in a while, I had a cat years ago with it. I do know humans can get it because I did. I had to get a prescription from a Dr. Good luck.

| We got a couple of kittens from the shelter last summer and it turned out they had ringworm. Tatum got one spot on her and our Aust. Shepherd got a couple spots. We had to bathe all four animals with an anti-fungal shampoo every 3 days for weeks! That was REAL fun with the cats but they actually got used to it pretty quickly. The rough part is that you have to leave it on for a certain amount of time after sudsing them up so we would put one in a small kennel while washing the other and then switch them out. Yes, it is quite contagious - my daughters got a LOT of ringworm spots many years ago from some kittens my MIL adopted. On humans, you just treat it with Lotrimin AF (athlete's foot cream). This won't go away on it's own (with the animals or humans) so you definitely need to get something from the vet to treat it. Good luck!!

| I think it is contagious until its completely gone. It does definately need to be treated. My daughter got it on her scalp a few years ago & the doctor told us to use lotrimin (sp?). It went away, but came back like a week later & worse. At that point, the doctor actually prescribed a medicine that was taken by mouth. My poor little girl had a bald spot about the size of a quarter just behind her ear. The hair grew back, but even years later you can tell that the hair is a little thinner in that spot. |

Since my daughters had it so bad I can definitely relate! If you're treating a human with the Lotrimin, you have to keep using it for a good two full weeks. That's a little difficult to do because once it's gone, it's hard to remember where to put the cream but that is a crucial part of the treatment. We are SO lucky they didn't get any spots in their hair!
