We got a couple of kittens from the shelter last summer and it turned out they had ringworm. Tatum got one spot on her and our Aust. Shepherd got a couple spots. We had to bathe all four animals with an anti-fungal shampoo every 3 days for weeks! That was REAL fun with the cats but they actually got used to it pretty quickly. The rough part is that you have to leave it on for a certain amount of time after sudsing them up so we would put one in a small kennel while washing the other and then switch them out.
Yes, it is quite contagious - my daughters got a LOT of ringworm spots many years ago from some kittens my MIL adopted. On humans, you just treat it with Lotrimin AF (athlete's foot cream).
This won't go away on it's own (with the animals or humans) so you definitely need to get something from the vet to treat it. Good luck!!
