| Table feeding Is it true that table feeding is bad for dogs? Can it actually make the dog sick? Last but not least can long term table feeding result in death? My husband tells me this and I don't totaly agree. Just wanted to know what you all think? |

| yes yes table food is bad for dogs. i have an almost 18 year old mini poo that has had the worst skin allergies for at least fifteen years. The vet has always told us that it is from table food and not to give them to her. My hubby will just not stop giving the poo and the pug table scraps. He can't stand to see them beg. The two times that Ceeby, my yorkie, has almost died, it was because of table food. Now as far as leading to death, my poodle has lived almost 18 years and is fairly healthy except for her skin and a few age related problems. She is even in heat this week believe it or not!!!!!!!!! never had her spayed and never bred her in her life. i know people on here do give certain table foods to their yorkies. it was kind of cute though, the other day they had this big thing going on about do not feed your baby table scraps. Then, someone started a thread about how many of us save food from resturants to give our babies. Well, honey , let me tell you many of the people that were so against table food on the other thread talked about sneaking food out of the resturant. it was funny. Sorry to make such a long post just to say yes, table food is bad for them according to my vet. |

| food i give my furbaby a taste of table food. i let him take a look and a lil taste. he never begs so i guess it works for us. i only let him have natural food tastes. for example, a little bit of chopped up apples, carrots, or basicly fruits and veggies. sometimes i treat him with a tiny piece of cheese or a couple slurps of organic milk leftover in my cereal bowl. i know it's problay wrong , but i feel 100% denial causes begging. |

| I feed mine veggies from the table. They love carrots, peas, green beans and more. Once in a blue moon I give them bacon. My vet says it won't hurt to give them something as a treat so that's what I do, but the vet says veggies are good for them. |

I have always fed people food to my Yorkies (from meat to veggies to fruit to cheese to ice cream/dessert) and have never had a problem and clearly my Yorkies love it. I have never known a dog who has died from table scraps and I always think "well what did dogs eat before dog food was invented?"

| Here are two threads you might want to read. Human grade food for Yorkies is fine but you have to be very careful with what foods you are feeding them. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ght=table+food http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ght=table+food

| I sometimes feed Starsky some of my table scraps but very little bites. Mainly just the vegetables. He is usually satisfied after about 3 little bites. He thinks he's had his taste and then goes and finds something else to do. I worry about table scrapes making him gain to much weight, so that is why he gets very little.

| Sometimes we give Tigger table scraps, but when we do it's near his dishes after we've eaten to prevent begging. It works out great, He sleeps near our feet and hopes(or dreams rather)that we share some with him. If we don't he's still happy and will jump on our laps and cuddle. I think the most we've given to him at dinner time was steak. He likes it medium rare. I've also given him (during the day) cottage cheese, and Johns given him a small pieces of bacon. We don't encourage it only because some human foods are indeed bad and toxic to dogs. Plus feeding them lots of table scraps can encourage obesity, but that will not always be the case. They're lifestyle comes into play big time. Whatever you decide make sure to research what you can and cannot feed your pet. Best of luck.

| I've only read that it isn't a good idea to feed the dog from the table. If you're going to give him "people food", do it after the plates have been removed from the table as you're cleaning up the dishes. Even then, be very careful as to what foods you feed them as they shouldn't have certain foods. For a list of foods to avoid giving to your dog, go to: http://www.peteducation.com/article....articleid=1030

| Some foods (like Pork) can be deadly to Yorkies! Everyone does have their own opinions on this matter though and I agree, it is what you feel comfortable with. I do not give Mojo anything from the table. He never begs for it either. We had a close call awhile back and now have a sign on our refrigerator that says "no human food". I just don't want to take that slim chance that something might not be right for him and have it ending up being bad news! It is like Greenies and Rawhides....some people give these as treats and others don't. I will not go back to either one of them. The vet did tell me that even cottage cheese can upset a dogs tummy (especially those that are not use to getting products with milk, etc). Any food can upset their tummies if they have too much or their tummies are not use to something. The vet said that boiled chicken, broth, rice and hamburger can be given in small amounts and especially if they have an upset tummy. I hear you though.......I'm still uncertain about what to give as food and treats.... Good luck!

| Is table feeding bad for a dog! It depends on how much and what you feed them. A lot of the food we eat is very healthy for our little pups. Mine eat chicken, other meats, vegetables, rice, vegetables, eggs, cheese, and many other leftovers from my meals. I don't give my dogs much junk food. They may get 1/2 a potato chip or a bite of a cookie, etc. Foods that aren't especially good or nutritious for us aren't good for our pets either. My dogs get dog food every morning....in the evening, I tend to feed them other things....but make it healthy food. I live alone and occasionally I buy a roasted chicken (too much chicken for me), so we all eat it for a few days. Healthy leftovers are fine. Carol Jean |
