| What is the recommended daily allownace for puppy? We have a 12 week old yorkie, How much should we be feeding him a day? i noticed most of the puippy food comes in 85 gram size packs. Should he just be having one of these a day and nothing else? |

| Free feeding is recommended for puppies, meaning keep a full bowl out all day. Yorkie puppies are high energy pups, they burn a lot of calories so food should be available when they need it. Don't worry about over feeding a puppy.

Personally, I discourage free feeding dogs. It is not a great habit to get into. Once you start certain things they are difficult to undo. Your puppy should have a set amount of food and there should be no guessing how much he has eaten. You also should have set times for him to eat. Not only for health reasons, but they love consistency. A normal puppy at 12 weeks of age should not have to be fed constantly. This link covers a lot of the issues with free feeding: https://www.petmd.com/blogs/nutritio...ost_dogs-12694 Be sure you are feeding him puppy food! I noted you did say that. I am just reinforcing. I have a rule of thumb with kibble with average size yorkies....about 1/4 cup twice/day. But again, I would speak with the vet.

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | I have free fed all my yorkies for the last 30 years and have never had an issue. My new puppy also has food and water out all the time But everyone does what works best for them. This has always worked for me

I am happy it worked for you; but, I encourage anyone reading this thread to read the link I posted about free feeding. Each of us does what is best for our pups and I am not saying anyone is wrong to do it. I just comes with the risk of many issues.

All the years you are on YT and now you put up that link. Why didn't you put that link up the very first time a YT member suggested / recommended free feeding puppies? Read my reply, "Free feeding is recommended for puppies". I never wrote I free feed. lovetodream88 (Taylor) dogs are well over one year old and she still free feeds and recommends free feeding "puppies".

If you PERSONALLY didn't do it....pardon me for misreading your post. You DID highly recommend it and it is NOT a highly recommended thing to do as you posted above. You don't get to dictate to me what I post and/or when I post it. I help out when I can and people can choose to use what I say or leave it behind. Matters not to me.

Don't let the "flack" bother you. It happens on all forums. Just the way of the internet. There is a TON of great information on this forum!!! When you get time, please share pics of your puppy! We love seeing new pups!
