| same here. My holistic vet said she feels uncomfortable to give her antibiotics. She wants me concentrate on low fat diet. My dog loooves brocolli, but I have to stop it, unfortunately. Because her belly bloated a lot before, and she has much gases. After I stopped giving her jerky, my older yorkie girl became so much better! No bloating, at least. No excessive drinking anymore. More energetic. No bloody diarrhea (one time was). Simple fact. So if your dog eats jerky, stop immediately. |

| I highly recommend read the reviews about Hill low fat. Read the ingredients. Read the tragic stories from people losing theirs pets because of this food. I wouldn't stay with the vet who is brainwashed and recommends this food to sick animals. Good luck with your baby. |

I will go out on a limb here and say that you might be the one who is brainwashed. You don't have one shred of evidence that what you are saying is true. There are NO dogs dying from Hills ID low fat. That is pure and total BS...as to reading ingredients only...that nonsense was started and keeps being harped on by the holistic crowd. They don't CARE who packages the food...they just harp on ingredients. I have yet to find one of these folks on the web who are bashing foods that has a resume heavy with animal nutrition studies. Yet they bash the companies who hire people educated in animal nutrition. I have used these foods since 2005. I have vast experience with sick dogs...the OP is wise to listen to his vet...NOT the armchair vets and nutritionists on the web.

Here is the one thread...tells me that maybe who you are listening to regarding what to feed your pups may not be wise. You sit here telling us that dogs are dying from prescription foods, which is really not true. Yes, you seem to have GI issues with your pups....so maybe people should not follow your advice? hmmm? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...treatment.html

| My boy Max was in the hospital for a week with pancreatitis. I feed him NOTHING except his dog food and dog treats. For us, it was the human food that wasn't agreeing with him. I stick by that rule and he's been fine. He has a few carrots here and there. I don't allow anyone to give him anything else.

| Absolutely! I gave him high fat reward foods when I hired a trainer to help me. Big mistake and really didn't even give it much thought at the time!

No one will delete posts unless they violate the rules. You may have just done that. We shall see. I don't make those decisions, but threatening people I would think is out of line. I hope the person who started this thread listens to her vet! There are far too many unqualified folks on the internet.

| Yorkies have weird GI stuff going on. Many of the trainers are used to dogs that have cast iron stomachs. LOL My son has two...they can eat just about anything. My yorkies? Oh please... I warn anyone who comes in my home not to give them anything but the food I feed them.

| Pancreatitis I am sorry your poor baby has this disease. My boy had a mild bout around five years ago and was treated by the vet for the acute stage with immediate success. Since then I have followed the vet's advice and only fed the Hills ID Low Fat Prescription diet, with no human food at all except perhaps a small amount of cooked and mashed veggies now and again. He eats the kibble only and if he seems a bit off color I feed him the canned for a while. So far he has been very healthy and is now nearly nine years old. I agree that the ingredients aren't what I thought were proper for a dog, but the food works so well for him and he loves it, so I continue to feed it to him. Dogs, like humans, react differently to food and perhaps this diet does not work for all. But in our case it has been a perfect food. The only issue I have is that the food does not seem satisfying for my dog and he seems to always be hungry, so I tend to fed smaller amounts more often. So that works here and I guess you have to try what works for your dog or cook a special diet. Last edited by dottiesyrky; 11-17-2017 at 08:49 AM. |

Yes, you do have to feed more of the food. I found mine was losing weight...once I added extra food, she was fine.
