One of our girls has to have Science Diet due to liver shunt. We have tried a few different foods for Bailey and settled on Royal Canin as that is what she seemed to take to the most.

I use nutro small breed for my yorkies. It's good for there hair, skin and digestive system. From my understanding Nutro is suppose to be good for them but I think home cooked food is way better if you have the time.

Nutro actually has a very shady history. Home cooking is great but you have to have a recipe from a vet nutritionist and the right supplements or you could be doing more harm then good.

I too am feeding Nutro Lamb and Rice. It has no chicken and no corn. ( there are all kinds of names for corn don't be fooled ) The girls love it. Bella our oldest had been on R.C. for most of her 4 years and last spring started with allergies so by winter time we started the food change battle.

Lovetodream88 can you give me more on the shady past thing.? Me girls really love this food the ing. list is really good I had an nutritionist help me with it and the pricing is manageable .

I've been feeding Primal for 7 months, my baby girl completely stopped itching and her body uses most of the nutrients from her meals so her poops are really small and she only goes once a day or sometimes every other day.

My 6-month old Sherlock eats Royal Canin puppy food for Yorkies. He seems to do well with that. I'm going to continue feeding him Royal Canin when he becomes an adult. They make dog food specifically for Yorkies and other breeds as well.

About royal canin do you just ignore the ingredient list and hope it's a healthy food because some people like it. I read labels and if the stuff in the bag doesn't sound healthy I won't feed it. I eat the same-way. Too much fat or sodium forget it. We want the best healthy food for our dogs. I really appreciate all your input.

It's a habit of mine to read the ingredients, and thus made a very carefully thought out decision to feed my pup Royal Canin due to the nutritional value the product provides, along with the scientific analysis, research, development and I also took into account the reputation of the company that manufactures the foods. Of course we only want the best for our babies--feed them the best food stacked with the correct vitamins and minerals necessary for their growth, health and overall well-being. My pup has discerning taste, a bit on the picky side; however, he seems to enjoy his Royal Canin meals compared to other brands. RC is more on the expensive side but I figured as long as it agrees with his digestion, promotes silkier hair and boosts his immune system, it will result to fewer costly vet visits. Healthy puppy = happy momma!

Ingredients that are good for humans are not necessarily good for dogs. Royal Canin puts A LOT of research into their foods and does feeding trials. They are a lot more trust worthy and good then lots of those holistic company's. What you said seems just really nasty and offensive.

People don't just "hope it's a healthy food because some people like it." Royal Canin has canine nutritionists on staff, and feeding trials. They put a lot of work into producing a quality product. And as someone else said earlier, Yorkies (and dogs in general) don't have the same nutritional requirements as humans. Just because some humans don't like corn, and just because some Yorkies have a bad reaction to corn, doesn't mean that corn, in general, is bad for Yorkies. The bottom line is, if you find a good food that works for your dog, and it meets its basic nutritional requirements, stick with it. I've been blessed that my Bella can tolerate a broad range of foods. We started with Royal Canin because that's what the breeder had her on as a puppy, and we switched to Blue Buffalo Life Protection because the dog food advisor (an overrated unprofessional website) said it was better than Royal Canin. That turned out to be a naive decision, because we got a bad batch of Blue Buffalo that was completely lacking in "life source bits." After that, we switched her to Wellness Core Grain Free Small Breed because it was spoken highly of on YorkieTalk. Bella did well on all three foods and was happy to eat all of them. We *could* have gone back to Royal Canin with no problem.

I Never intend to be nasty and offensive. So sorry if I came across that way. I am asking for honest advice. My yorkies have had this yellow mush mess for awhile. Thank you to all who have taken the time to help me. Truly I appreciate your info.

Hi! I'm new to this whole forum but wanted to put my two cents into this conversation. Lol. I got my four legged son Prince in November of 2006. I had already planned on using Royal Canin Yorkie formula when he reached 9 months of age (he was 8 weeks when he flew to be with me) but at the time Royal Canin didn't have a breed specific puppy formula. So I transitioned him to their all around puppy formula. Then in June of 2007 we transitioned to big boy food (aka Royal Canin Yorkie formula). He has been on this ever since and I don't regret it at all. There's never been a day or time I've contemplated switching. The price hasn't always been the most ideal, but I always found a way to make sure I could afford it. Every human is different and what one diet might work for one person won't necessarily work for another. Same with dogs. Why do you discredit a company that is actually researching and doing trials? And you credit a way of feeding that hasn't even been around long enough to have thorough testing to the true benefit of it? Also most testing isn't on a breed specific trial. Just my opinion. Prince hasn't had any issues that stemmed from his diet. in fact he's had many benefits from the diet he's had.
