Puppy teeth question.... Petsmart ppl made me mad Ok guys sorry to ask yet another question. I took Gizmo today to petsmart. They have a puppy pack and it has a free puppy bath. I figured what could it hurt. I talked with them and left Gizmo in their care. I went to get him some more food and was paged. She VERY rudely told me it was not possible for him to be 9 weeks old. That they showed him to a vet and the vet said since not all of his teeth are in he is younger. I then asked her who the vet was. She skirted the question. I told her I was there for the birth (because I was) and that I had vet papers etc for shots yada yada. She still called me a liar. I immediately walked over to the vet office and made an appt tomorrow using the free vet visit coupon because 1) I'm worried now that something is wrong and 2) I want them to eat their words. I can't believe how rude they were. His mom was a rescue she was abandoned right before delivering and the people that took her had no ability to keep the puppies. I stepped in. I know his bday. My long winded question is should he have all his teeth? Is it OK that some aren't in? He was the runt of the litter. He weighs in at a hefty .8 pounds. Ha-ha. He's just a little guy so I worry. He's getting his calorie supplement, his natural wet food and he drinks well. I still give him formula also a couple times a day. Just a small amount like the vet said. Thoughts?

At 9 weeks old, this baby is missing more than a couple of teeth....he is not completely vaccinated and should not be out in public, getting exposed to all the diseases that are especially prevalent in places like Petsmart. If he IS "completely vaccinated", whoever did that, does not know what they are doing!!! Petsmart/public places are dangerous!!! There was a lady in there one day with a dog she had JUST picked up off the street....no shots, and obviously sick....and she was walking it all over Petsmart, which was unnoticed by the employees, or they just dont care WHAT drags thru their store, full of God only knows what kind of diseases..... PLEASE!!!! NO place for a tiny, unvaccinated runt!!!! He MAY have received an initial puppy shot at 8 weeks of age, but any shots given BEFORE 8 weeks of age are null and void....(he is still under immunity from momma and those shots are NO GOOD), that is very barely protecting him against all the diseases that kill unvaccinated babies out there. Please, take this underage, undersized baby HOME and stay there until he is at least 12-14 weeks old....he should be getting vaccinations at 8-11-14 weeks old, with rabies at 6-8 months old....this tiny, undersized baby should absolutely NOT be out in public! I am actually stunned and amazed they even took him from you at the grooming center, considering his age and size!!!!! Take this baby home, and go buy a very good book for beginners called, "Yorkies For Dummies"....It is an excellent book that covers everything you will need to know to get you started with your yorkie....stay at home with that baby and read that book, cover to cover!! Your baby should be getting vaccinated again because his first shots are no good because of maternal immunity....you may have to wait until he get some size on him....this is such a tiny, tiny baby....please, read and learn everything you are going to need to know to keep this tiny baby alive.... You need to change vets! Any vet that is giving immunizations to an underage, actually undersized puppy, is not, shall I say, "up to date" on when to give vaccinations, as well as vaccinating such a tiny, tiny baby! How many shots has that baby been given??? And WHO gave them??? I am absolutely globsmacked! Another thing your "vet" has told you is to cut back on giving formula???? PREPOSTEROUS!!!! Yorkies nurse until they are about 9-10-11 weeks old....they may just be nursing at night, and they are learning to eat from saucers and how to lap up liquids from saucers, but please, find a vet that knows something about yorkies!!! NURSING from momma provides feelings of security and a sense of well being.... Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 12-31-2015 at 02:30 PM.

I have the book. Just purchased it. I did not mean to upset you. I understand now about the puppy not being around others so early. I will not make the same mistake again. As for the shots. I did not mean he had all his shots. He had his 6 week shots and a week later parvo. He was small and i asked and they agreed he should o ly have one at a time. I apologize for upsetting you. As for his "vet" as I stated we are taking him to a new vet tomorrow and trying them. The first place we went he seemed to know little about small dogs and tried to get me to buy flea treatment pills. I am doing my research and checking reviews. So finding a good vet might take time but I will find one. I'm doing all the research I can here and other sources. I made a mistake. However he is healthy very loved and I'm doing the best I can. The formula he gets at night when he wakes and during the day twice. I should of been more specific. He told me at his visit it wasn't needed any longer to be honest and to not worry about it. I kept giving it after looking some things up online. I guess I'll keep reading the books and looking online. It seems that if I or others makes a mistake some people get really really upset. I have kids as well. Puppies and kids are learning processes. We make mistakes and we learn from them. I never make the same mistake twice though. :0) Thanks for the input. I'll let you know what the new vet says.

You are doing well with your reading, research, and assessing input! I still would NOT take this baby out in public....he needs to start his vaccinations over because what he has gotten before 8 weeks of age, are null and void....he is so tiny, I would personally wait until he is 12 weeks old and start again with his puppy shots. Do not take him out until he is completely vaccinated....if that tiny soul gets parvo, I am afraid it will kill him. I would NOT give Lepto vaccinations...that stuff is really tough on Yorkies....if the State says you need to give it, give Benadryl 20 minutes before the shot, then stay at the vet for 20-30 minutes after the shot to be sure there are no problems. You are doing just fine....I am sorry I got crazy on you, but I LOVE that you didnt wilt and run!!! You and your baby are going to do just fine! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 12-31-2015 at 04:13 PM. | |

When I do find a good vet he/she should know about redoing the shots right? As far as the Lepto vaccine it isn't required here where I am. It's recommended for dogs in the northern part of the state so where I am Gizmo gets a reprieve. He's teething like crazy now so that makes me happy and like you said he hasn't picked up theblapping of water up yet so we are encouraging him to try but still using a syringe. I like the formula because it allows liquids also. I figure right about the time he doesn't need the formula anymore he will probably let us know. I have heard they turn their nose up to it. Thanks for the input and reply. I appreciate experience. Thats always a blessing. I'll update after the vet. Thanks again
