| fowl breath 8 yr old Hi friends. .... Basically ,very soon after Kirby 's last dental cleaning approximately 6 months ago our 4 pounder furry baby has fowl poopy/ fishy smelling breath. He has been re examined by two vets ( got a second opinion )the concensus is he has moved on from expressing his anal glands with bowl movements and now takes a more active part including using his mouth. Vets expressed with hands onto a tissue and it was the same odor. My first concern was that his gums or similar was nicked and inflamed after dental cleaning.......something quite treatable. Vet said not the issue, and to continue using a water additive if not already using regularly. Kirby has kept his anal area odor free and odor free breath. all these years. He doesn't scoot on Carpet........i am baffled as additive isn't doing the trick. Also, he provides therapy for extremely disabled adults and at a "nursing home:" The clients don't catch the smell in ways that appear as any discomfort to them. But, I am very concerned. ......am I alone. We do not have his glands manually expressed as we are more comfortable with his natural process. I don't know what to think. no eating or any other change in habits. HELP please

| My Teddy sometimes has stinky breath caused by dry mouth and I believe something digestive related. I'm not sure why his mouth tends to be dry, especially when he sleeps. He is a good water drinker. Teddy also has a weird digestive system that can cause moments of bad breath. No health problems, but he is more sensitive than his brother (same parents), and he can be a little burpy and gassy. When he is upset over a thunder storm, the bad breath comes out. I've also noted that mustaches and beards can retain a lot of smell that can be mistaken for bad breath.

| Dogs should not have bad breath generally speating. Try a little coconut oil on his toothbrush and rub it into his gums - I find that spiffs up doggie breath on the rare occasion someone here needs it. Don't over do it - just a small amount.

| My Yorkie's bad breath came back shortly after a dental cleaning as well. The vet said his gums was red even before the dental and she gave me a bottle of gel liquid(I can't remember the brand right now-I can check when I get home) and to use that every night to brush his teeth and gums. It really helps when I use it. According to my vet, if they have periodontal/gingivitis, teeth cleaning alone does not curb it and the gel needs to be used on a routine basis to curb the smell and it works. I have been brushing his teeth for the last few years every night without fail. I do use that gel a few times a week but not every day anymore and it it work wonders!
