My Yorkie's bad breath came back shortly after a dental cleaning as well. The vet said his gums was red even before the dental and she gave me a bottle of gel liquid(I can't remember the brand right now-I can check when I get home) and to use that every night to brush his teeth and gums. It really helps when I use it.

According to my vet, if they have periodontal/gingivitis, teeth cleaning alone does not curb it and the gel needs to be used on a routine basis to curb the smell and it works. I have been brushing his teeth for the last few years every night without fail. I do use that gel a few times a week but not every day anymore and it it work wonders!
