| Winnie ' s ongoing tummy troubles.... Hello all!! Winnie has been on hills ideal balance since her mushroom incident. Before that she was on Blue buffalo. On BB she always had soft poo. Even with probiotics. When she was on i/d she had the most normal poops I have seen from her. The first week after 9/19 (the mushroom incident) she did perfect....nothing but i/d. Throughout the second week I slowly introduced the new food. Still....wonderful. but in the last couple of weeks being on nothing but hills IB and her probiotic powder it has slowly regressed....she poops 3-4 times a day...and at least one of them is very soft and ends in mucousy/watery (starts off normal...ends this way in one go). She does have normal poops as well. She still gets a probiotic every day....and is being withheld any treats. Although no matter how diligent I am it seems she finds something naughty to eat. I have an appointment with her vet...but wanted to get some back up from experienced yorkie parents!! I dropped off a stool sample and the fecal still comes negative. Her overall health and spirit is typical...she's very energetic. Eats like a pig. Drinks plenty of water. Urine is normal. Her only issue is the poop. Is it typical for yorkies to have such sensitive stomachs? Is this a genetic thing? We have always had dogs since I can remember...mostly mutts. And I've had two dogs as an adult raised from pups. And a third senior adopted dog. Now winnie makes four....and I've never had a dog with such tummy issues. I didn't want to go grain free right off the bat unless it was necessary....but I'm kinda thinking this may be what I need to do. Like I said....we have a vet appointment tomorrow and if she doesn't feel it's something else I'm thinking we will try grain free.....does anyone have any input? This little girl is stressing me out!! |

| I just wanted to add....when I say something naughty to eat I mean like a piece of toast or pop tart .... sometimes a piece of hamburger that I missed under the bench after cleaning up after dinner. She is kenneled while the kids eat. I clean up and she comes out. I just wouldn't think a small piece of human food every once in a while would upset her tummy as much as it seems to. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Tummy troubles are so frustrating, I really feel for you. To answer your question - no, not all yorkies have sensitive tummies...none of my 3 do. Have you tried adding fiber/pumpkin, btw? I wonder if that would help regulate her at all. As far as kibble, you may want to try Nature's Logic.

| I haven't tried anything other than her probiotics....but I will talk to her vet about the pumpkin/fiber. In dogs is fiber to help them go or firm things up? Cuz she definately doesn't need help going haha. So would her sensitive tummy be a genetic issue? Could there be some underlying genetic intestinal issue I should be concerned about? |

| So I really adore winnies vet....she called me. She saw I had brought a fecal and that I had an appointment for tomorrow....which was with another vet there (didn't realize that) and she's not gonna be in tomorrow. She asked me to bring winnie in and she would do a "follow up xray" free of charge....she said that there is a slight inflammation of her intestines which she feels is the upset from her food....she has no temp, is highly energetic and looks good otherwise. So we are going to transition to a grain free food and she did say I could add pumpkin each day and that may help as well....but would like me to do the food alone first and then add pumpkin later so we know if it's the food change or the pumpkin helping her. She is scheduled for a follow up in two weeks for another xray and general check. I did check out the nature's logic and my only issue is I like to be able to buy the food locally....I'm not a huge fan of Internet buying.....@ Wylie's mom....I'm was wondering if you could give me some feedback on Authority grain free puppy chicken and potato. The only thing I can see plainly is that it's general puppy food and not specific to breed/size. Does this make much of a difference if the kibble is small enough? I've attached the link to the food description from petsmart. Authority® Grain Free Puppy Food |

| Hello again!! I noticed I've posted on this more than anyone else hehe sorry for that....but....Winnies vet called me back again and said she had been pondering what we talked about and wondered if the protein was the problem...all of her food so far have had chicken in them...except the i/d. Which she did fine with....so she suggested trying a different protein. So I went and got simply nourish sweet potato and salmon...and will start transitioning her tomorrow. Hoping she will like it!! |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I would try a lamb product . . Lamb is very mild for tummies . . I also would use plain can pumpkin with the food. It will help with the transition. Sometimes you can get loose stool even when you slowly change the food over

| I kept my pup on Hills ID for several months, nothing else. She is fine now, can eat just about anything. If Hills agrees with your pup just keep her on it, no reason to change. If/when you want to try a new protein agree lamb is usually easier to digest. |
