I have given Ellie trifexis for quite a while now and i have had no problems. I have tried a few things and this is the only thing that seems to work. It was not until I started on here about two months ago that I ever heard anything negative about Trifexis. Everyone I know around here with small dogs and big dogs all use it and have no complaints with it. My vet even gives it to his dogs. My question is, what exactly is the truth? And if it is so horrible, what do y'all suggest dogs be on?

For heartworm? Heartguard Plus. Wayyyy more trustworthy.

If you need flea protection, use Frontline Plus, Advantage or Advantix.

Sentinel and Heartgard. I'm currently using Heartgard for my boys.

Mine used Trifexis for years, too. I didn't think he was having any issues with it although two times in the past, he had some weird neurological symptoms that the vet couldn't definitively diagnose. The third time he had these same symptoms (2 weeks ago) I was able to directly relate it to the timing of his dose of trifexis (onset within 24 hours) I notified my vet and told him I was discontinuing the Trifexis and would like to change to Sentinal. They don't sell Sentinal as they have a contract with Trifexis, but they were very willing to supply a prescription to on online source for me. They agreed that the timing was suspicious, but would not say for sure that was the cause. Only time will tell.

PLEASE...go to the Facebook page "Trifexis Kills DOGS" and read everything you can. It's poison...whether the symptons show up immediately..or long term (my case). DO NOT give your baby this poison. To watch your 3 lb baby girl take her last breath in your arms is just NOT worth it. There are better meds out there.

I have read everything its just hard to believe everything you read sometimes. I am looking into changing right now, but I am having to look at other vets because all our vet sells is Trifexis.

All my vet sells is Trifexis, too, but the tech told me to go on line and order from 1800petmeds and that they would fax in a prescription. They did and I had it in less than a week from the day I ordered it. Your vet has got to have something in place for their patients that can't take Trifexis for whatever reason. Mine refused to accept that the trifexis was causing the symptoms, but she readily ok'd the on line prescription. Ahother choice is to buy the plain heartworm pills from your vet and then buy Program flea control pills on line. It is more expensive that way, but that is what I used to do before I switched to Trifexis at my vets recommendation "to save money". The questionable ingredient in the Trifexis is the flea prevention, not the heartworm med.

Ask the vet tech or desk clerk, not the vet. They will be more forthcoming, and they are the ones who put the fax in front of the doctor and tell them "sign here".

My tech/desk person made a note on Huey's chart when I dropped by and said I was switching, so that is why it was done so fast, I'm sure. As long as the techs are aware, it will get done, just like the nurse at the doctors office is really the one that runs the joint, not the doc!

We ended up going with Advantage for both heart worms and fleas. Hopefully this will be good for them!

My Abby started with Revolution and for some reason Riley was put on Trifexis.
The first time I gave it to him he got so sick I had to take him to the ER. They assured me Trifexis was very safe and gave him fluids and he was fine the next day. I thought perhaps I didn't feed him enough before and have not had any more problems. Then after reading reports about dogs dying from it last month when I went to the vet to pick up the meds I told them (didn't ask) that Riley was switching to Revolution and they just did it. Said they hadn't heard of any problems with Trifexis. Now I am worried about the Revolution. Is it safe?
You try to do the right thing but it is hard when you don't know what is right.

You try to do the right thing but it is hard when you don't know what is right.

That is exactly how I feel!! I have had not one problem and both of my girls have been on it and Ellie has been on it for quite a while. I really hated to change to something when I really was pleased with how Trifexis was was working, but after hearing everything I decided to change. I hope I am doing the right thing. You can't always believe everything you hear online.

Advantage?? I'm pretty sure Advantage is only for fleas. Not heartworm (which is the more important one to give monthly, flea/ticks should only be given when necessary, depending on environment).

The advantage we bought was for both heart worm and fleas and intestinal parasites.
